2014 Ken Russell Memorial Classic Betting Tips

A promising line-up of 15 two-year-olds will face off in Saturday’s Ken Russell Memorial Classic 2014 on the Gold Coast, the Races.com.au team’s betting tips for which can be found right here.

Due to jump at 1:25pm (AEST) as A.D. Hollindale Stakes Day Race 3, this year’s $125,000 Group 3 Moreton Hire Ken Russell Memorial Classic (1200m) is shaping up as a top showdown between many 2014 JJ Atkins-bound juveniles.

Current favourite in the Ken Russell Memorial Classic odds at $3 is the Aimee who shoots for her fourth straight win here.

The Noel Doyle-trained Exceedingly Good filly hasn’t lost since the start of February and was last seen winning the $100,000 Sky Racing 2YO Plate (1200m) here on the Gold Coast on March 15.

While first-up isn’t always where she runs best, Aimee won that day from barrier 12 of 13 and also has winning form up to 1300m at Eagle Farm so looks the one to beat.

Also under double figures to win are then the Liam Birchley-trained Real Saga filly Sagatona ($5) who ran sixth in the Magic Millions 2YO Classic, local Denman filly Grapevine ($6.50) in barrier one for just their third career start, Sarisara ($7) out wide in barrier 12 and Ryan’s Rogue ($9.50) who won on debut last time out at Eagle Farm a month ago.

So will one of these up-and-comers score a feature win on the weekend?

Or will the Ken Russell Memorial Classic winner come from further down the markets such as market mover Murwillumbah visitor Hollywood Barbie ($13) or even improver from Coffs Harbour Goodbye Kevin ($26)?

We are tipping #8 Aimee from #2 Choc Mountain and #11 Sagatona in the Ken Russell Memorial Classic this year

1st

#8 Aimee ($3)

Local filly is simply flying wining three on the trot from Doomben to Eagle Farm and then home last start. That was a two length effort over this track and distance from an outside gate so in barrier eight will be bolting it in. Haven’t raced since mid-March but ran on April 24 in a trial at Deagon over 1000m which they won so fitness isn’t an issue. Stay with the favourite to make it four from four.

2nd

#2 Choc Mountain ($19)

This outside chance represents outstanding value for us, Ben Ahrens’ Monashee Mountain colt from Beaudesert rising through the ranks this time in. They have won one of four starts so far, albeit only over 800m at Kilcoy, but think the step up in distance will suit. Their latest effort was a close second at the Sunny Coast last weekend and while they are on the short back-up have the makings a very nice type.

3rd

#11 Sagatona ($5)

Plenty of experience and class from this Brisbane-based daughter of Real Saga who runs for the second time since a sixth, beaten 4.5 lengths by Unencumbered, in the MM Classic here in early January. Before that were just off the best when third to the same horse in the Group 3 BJ McLachlan Stakes (1200m) at Doomben. Returned when seventh at Eagle Farm to Shinji but will improve off that going back up to the 1200m.
