Doomben 10,000 winner Beaded has been hit with a 1.5kg penalty for the Stradbroke Handicap following her Group 1 success.

The Peter Snowden trained mare produced a stunning effort in the Doomben 10,000 to pip Love Conquers All on the line, and will now carry 53kgs in the Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap at Eagle Farm on June 11.

Beaded carried 51kg in last year’s Stradbroke Handicap, and missed the placing’s for the first and only time in her career, finishing a long neck fourth behind winner Black Piranha.

Under weight for age conditions, Beaded lugged 57kg in the 10,000, and will now drop to 53kgs in the Stradbroke.

Despite the 4kg weight drop, the Darley mare now meets Love Conquers All 1.5kgs worse at the weights.

Racing Queensland handicapper Nathan Bourke said that he was content with the assessment of the Doomben 10,000 winner, and while Love Conquers All will meet
Beaded better at the weights, Bourke said he could not be too mindful of just one horse.

“Effectively it now puts her on the same level as Sniper’s Bullet and All Silent, both of which she beat easily on Saturday. It does however still leave her a half kilo under Melito, as we could justify taking her to that mark,” continued Bourke.

Queensland is the only state where weight for age wins can be penalised. The rule was bought in after Undue failed to gain a start in the 2006 Stradbroke, despite winning the Doomben 10,000 at weight for age.

The last horse to receive a penalty going into the Stradbroke Handicap was Apache Cat, who was penalised 1kg for his 5.5 length win in the 2008 edition of the Doomben 10,000.
