New Boys Threaten Fillydelphia In Grand Prix

Fillydelphia was for most a surprise winner of the Rough Habit Stakes two weeks ago at Doomben but she won’t be sneaking up on too many people today.

She’ll start as favourite in the Grand Prix Stakes and it’s a deserved title after trouncing the field by more than two lengths in that last run.

Most of the horses she faces she beat on that day but there are a few new comers which could cause some problems.

She’s the only filly in a capacity field of colts and geldings but she’s proved she’s up to the task and there’s no reason she won’t be able to do it again.

”Highly impressive last time out and is at her peak,” Darren Bardsley said.

”Drawn a little wide but has the speed to settle in midfield and come with another withering burst.”

The gate is a problem and from barrier 16 the jockey has a big choice to make.

Does she push up mid field but risk being caught three wide on the turn or does she go to the back but risk being too far away by the time she gets her run.

Chateau Fort is probably the best of the Queensland hopes, he finished third in the Rough Habit but had a couple of excuses which give a bit of confidence that he can turn it around today.

Coming up from Sydney though are two new boys Fillydelphia has to contend with in the form of Peck and Leading.

Peck was a big favourite in his last start but when the gates opened he was left six lengths behind them.

He did tack onto the field and actually ended up running home sixth so if he gets that start right he’ll behitting the line at speed.

Leading meanwhile ran third in that same race however things could have been better from Brenton Avdulla.

He was taken wide off the turn to find the centre of the track but in the end it was the two on the inside which beta him after taking the short cut.

He may well have won had he done the same with a very quick final 400m split and from barrier three today he’ll have the run of the race.
