Black Caviar Gives Early Risers Champagne Start

After arriving secretly in Brisbane last Sunday, the world’s best horse Black Caviar gave early birds at Eagle Farm a hint of the magic to come as she worked out under the lights in her first look at a Queensland track.

Black Caviar was given her first workout this morning since arriving in Brisbane on Sunday

The Peter Moody-trained superstar has been kept under guard in a purpose-built stable at Eagle Farm, Black Caviar making her first steps towards her debut Brisbane run in the Group 1 BTC Cup (1200m) with a track workout this morning.

Up at 4am, the leisurely workout pleased Moody and his brilliant mare was back in her stables all before more than a handful knew Black Caviar had even awoken.

“She’s settled in to her new home very comfortably and everything is on target for her winter campaign,” Moody said.

Boasting a flawless record of 12 successive wins, the five-time Group 1 winning Bel Esprit mare showed she was in perfect form to make it a bakers’ dozen in the BTC Cup at Doomben Saturday week.

Moody floated his champion sprinter from Melbourne to Brisbane in a two-day trip, unable to fly Black Caviar to Queensland due to ongoing issues with air transportation for equines in Australia.

“She was on the road for 10 ½ to Dubbo, where she had a stopover,” Moody said.

“After the rest she was back on the float for the trip to Brisbane.”

The long journey has had no adverse affects on the superlative four-year-old, Moody 100 per cent happy with how she handled the trip and how she has since settled in at the Sunshine State.

“Everything went perfectly and she hasn’t missed a beat since she arrived here,” Moody reported.

BTC Cup Day preparations are now in full-swing as the Brisbane Racing Club gears up for the fever-pitch hysteria overtaking Queensland race fans ready to crowd Doomben to capacity to be there when racing royalty likely wins again.

Racing’s biggest drawcard in recent years, Black Caviar is expected to attract a mass of 20,000 fans and punters who will descend on Doomben.

To avoid upsetting the sprint queen’s routine and lead-up work to the BTC Cup, Moody kept a close lid on Black Caviar’s first light exercise in Brisbane this morning.

Meanwhile BTC Cup second-favourite Hay List will be sent to Brisbane next Thursday according to trainer John McNair.

Black Caviar’s renowned sparring partner, Hay List will be given a 1000m barrier trial at Randwick tomorrow taking on fellow BTC Cup rival Shellscrape.

“Hay List needs a good hit-out before the BTC Cup,” McNair said.

“He’s done so well since he won the All Aged Stakes.”

There were 16 first acceptors for the BTC Cup field on Wednesday including nine other individual Group 1 winners aside from wonder mare Black Caviar.

Other notable BTC Cup hopefuls still in the running to challenge Caviar include defending champion Albert The Fat, dual Stradbroke Handicap winner Black Piranha, The Galaxy winner Atomic Force and Robert Heathcote’s local last-start Victory Stakes winner Buffering.
