Queensland Oaks 2022 Betting Update: Barb Raider Market Mover

Group 1 racing continues at Eagle Farm this weekend in the form of the 2022 Queensland Oaks, and brave The Roses winner Barb Raider is the early market mover to complete the double on back-to-back Saturdays.

There remains a capacity field for this season’s Group 1 $700,000 Queensland Oaks (2200m) with the first two emergencies – Cupid’s Kiss (8) and Nyota (9) – both gaining starts following the early scratching of Charity Spirit (23) and Mokulua (5).

Plenty of early money is rolling in for the filly donning the No. 1 saddlecloth with the Jerome Hunter-trained daughter of Rebel Raider, Barb Raider, backed in from $11 to $7 in Queensland Oaks betting at Ladbrokes.com.au.

Drawn well coming into around barrier 10 with the scratchings, the in-form The Roses champ was given a gun ride by master hoop Craig Williams last Saturday.

Williams retains the mount her Grand Final here over 2200m, just 100m further than the rescheduled The Roses run.

She’s on the quick back-up, but the punters are happy to take her as Barb Raider returns to elite level company following her earlier Group 1 Australasian Oaks second at Morphettville on April 30 over 2000m when only a head beaten.

Despite drawing out near the carpark, this year’s Queensland Oaks favourite is still the David Vandyke-trained Gypsy Goddess at a steady quote of $4.20.

William Pike rides the Sunshine Coast-based daughter of Tarzino, who is two-from-two at Eagle Farm ahead of the Oaks.

The bonny bay was good as the odds-on elect last December here beaten the boys in the Group 3 Grand Prix Stakes (2100m), and also won over the Eagle Farm mile fresh by 3.5 lengths back in March.

A Group 1 Vinery Stud Stakes (1850m) third at Newcastle followed, before her second to El Patroness on a Heavy (10) at Randwick in this year’s Group 1 ATC Oaks (2400m).

Gypsy Goddess was last seen racing at the Gold Coast on May 7 when a half-length beaten in the Listed Gold Coast Bracelet (1800m), and she presents well here fresh getting out over a more suitable distance again.

The danger at current Queensland Oaks odds of $4.50 is the Caroline Jennings-trained Aravene chasing a hat-trick.

Brett Prebble rides the untapped Fastnet Rock filly from a gun barrier six draw as the Victorian raider rises in grade and distance.

Her latest two runs in easier company have put her on the map for the Oaks with victories over 1800m and 2000m respectively.

The first at Sandown was by 1.5 lengths carrying 59kg, while her latest start on May 21 saw her defeat Ting Tong by over three lengths on a Heavy (9) at Rosehill.

Rounding out the single-figure fancies is the other notable firmer, Belle Savoir, Nick Ryan’s The Roses runner-up backed in from $12 to $9.50 to turn the tables on her last start conqueror.

Ryan Maloney retains the ride on the Not A Single Doubt filly who was only a head off Barb Raider in last Saturday’s Roses producing an eye-catching run.

The Queensland Oaks 2022 is set to run as Eagle Farm Race 9 at 3:53pm (AEST) with the latest markets, courtesy of Ladbrokes.com.au, available here.
