2020 San Domenico Stakes Nominations: Punters in For A Tough Choice
The punters look in for a tough choice selecting the horse to win Saturday’s San Domenico Stakes 2020 if the post-nomination betting markets – featuring half the entries at $5 or under – are to go by.

The feature race at Rosehill Gardens on the weekend, this season’s Group 3 $160,000 San Domenico Stakes (1100m) attracted just 10 nominations.
Despite the diminutive numbers, the three-years-old sprint already shapes-up as a top-class affair with the nominations including two undefeated colts, two returning Group 1 placegetters and last-start The Rosebud winner Anders.
It is Ciaron Maher & David Eustace’s progressive Not A Single Doubt colt Anders narrowly leading the all-in San Domenico Stakes odds at $4 through Ladbrokes.com.au.
The smart chestnut posted his third career win at start number seven last time out winning the Listed The Rosebud (1100m) by nearly five lengths first-up.
He rises in grade for the Group 3 set weights plus penalties clash on the weekend, but was ultra-impressive fresh on a Heavy (9) track and is undefeated at the Rosehill track.
Anders is also a 1100m specialist boasting a three-from-four record over the distance ahead of Saturday’s showdown.
Hot on his heels in the post-nomination markets at $4.20 for the win is one of the unbeaten runners looking to retain a flawless run in Peltzer ($4.20).
Representing the new training partnership of Gerald Ryan and Sterling Alexiou, the nicely-bred son of So You Think won all three of his assignments in the winter.
He went out a four-length winner over the classy Chris Waller-trained duo of Overlord (2nd) and Achiever (3rd) in a two-years-old handicap over 1300m run on a Heavy (8) Randwick track on May 23.
Peltzer carted 59kg to that big victory and looks very well-weighted with 55kg on the weekend in a race co-trainer Alexiou believes the colt more than capable of winning as he kicks off his Group 1 $1 million Golden Rose Stakes campaign.
“You often get carried away with that off-season winter form but he has always shown us that even though it was his first preparation he was going to get better with racing and as he matures,” he told Racenet.
“Obviously he has got to go to another level now but I think he has the attributes of being a very nice horse.
“He’s trialled well in the lead up and should be ready to go next Saturday.”
The other runner yet to taste defeat nominated for the event is $4.60 third elect Doubtland for Hawkes Racing.
Another son of boom sire Not A Single Doubt, Doubtland enjoyed a winning debut over Miss Canada back in early March, that filly franking the form with a first-up Newcastle win this prep before her third to Dame Giselle in last Saturday’s Group 2 Silver Shadow Stakes (1200m).
Following that, Doubtland rose in grade for the Group 3 Kindergarten Stakes (1100m) over ‘The Championships’ and saluted by four lengths in the event before heading to the paddock.
He has been brought on fitness wise in the same 900m trial over 900m at Rosehill from August 18 won by Peltzer when finishing strongly for third only a length off the highly-spruiked winner.
Group 1 ATC Sires’ Produce placegetters Mamaragan ($4.80) and Prague ($5) are the other standout San Domenico Stakes nominees this season.
The John Thompson-trained Wandjina colt Mamaragan will carry the 57.5kg topweight if accepted into the field on the weekend as a Group 2 winner a dual Group 1 placegetter.
He debuted with a Group 2 Skyline Stakes (1200m) success at double-figures in late February before his third to Farnan in the Group 1 $3.5 million Golden Slipper (1200m) and same placing behind King’s Legacy in the ATC Sires’ over 1400m on April 4.
A stablemate to Saturday’s favourite Anders, Redoute’s Choice colt Prague is also a graduate out of that 1400m elite level in the autumn having run second only a half-length beaten.
He is a dual Group 3 winner with victories in the Canonbury Stakes (1100m) over Waller’s Breeders Plate winner Global Quest – another San Domenico entry – and Pago Pago Stakes (1200m) defeating Kumasi with a Golden Slipper sixth also on his record.
