Playing God Wins 2010 WA Guineas on way to Kingston Town Classic
On Saturday November 13, the Neville Parnham-trained Playing God emerged as the leading three-year-old at Ascot Racecourse, winning the $250,000 Group 2 W.A. Guineas (1600m).
Blackfriars colt Playing God went out as the $4.60 favourite on Saturday and rewarded the punters with a tidy win over Daniel Pearce’s filly Lauradane ($10) while Fairetha Stakes’ winner Hoegaarden ($9) came in to finish third.
Originally Hoegaarden lead the field and set the pace before Playing God and jockey Steven Parnham chased them down overtaking on the straight to claim an emphatic victory.
It was a brilliant day’s racing for Parnham who took out three other races on the card including the Group 3 R.J. Peters Stakes (1500m) with Playing God’s full brother God Has Spoken.
Playing God, purchased for $27,000 at the 2009 Perth Yearling Sale at Belmont, has been in excellent form this season winning a three-year-olds’ handicap at Belmont before finishing second in the Fairetha Stakes on October 30.
Saturday’s WA Guineas win boosted their career record to three victories from seven starts earning $256,100 in prize money.
The Group 1 Kingston Town Classic (1800m) on December 4 is the next major assignment for Playing God.
“At this stage I’m hoping to run him in the Kingston Town Classic as three-year-olds get in reasonably well in the race,” Parnham said.
The next big event at the Perth Summer Racing Carnival takes place this Saturday with the $1 million Group 1 Railway Stakes (1600m) lighting up the Ascot track.
