Trainer Chris Waller gets a shot at his maiden success in Saturday’s 2018 Vinery Stud Stakes with his in-form filly Unforgotten narrow favourite in the pre-field markets.

Rosehill Gardens is host to a double-shot of autumn elite level racing on Tancred Stakes Day this weekend including the three-year-old ATC Oaks-bound fillies facing off in the Group 1 $500,000 Vinery Stud Stakes (2000m).

On Monday the set weights race attracted a class line-up of 17 nominations and the subsequent all-in Vinery Stud Stakes odds at Ladbrokes.com.au list Waller’s daughter of Fastnet Rock as the $4.50 favourite.

No favourite has won the Vinery Stud Stakes since Norzita ($3 in 2013) but Unforgotten showed her class last time out with a win over the boys in the Group 2 Phar Lap Stakes (1500m) on March 17.

Yet to run over further than that distance, the bookies are taking no chances as she looks to extend out to 2000m in the Vinery Stud Stakes before a possible step-up again for the Group 1 $1 million Australian Oaks (2400m) at Royal Randwick on April 14.

Unforgotten was tested at elite level two back in the recently upgraded Group 1 Surround Stakes (1400m) but finished dead last (11^th) having suffered from cardiac arrhythmia.

She was quick to atone with the Phar Lap Stakes victory over Holy Snow, a race that no Vinery Stud Stakes winner has backed directly up off without a subsequent run since Lotka’s Star (5^th in 1984).

Occupying the next lines of all-in Vinery Stud Stakes betting as the close second and third elects are Luvaluva ($5) and Aloisia ($5.50).

The John Sargent-trained Mastercraftsman filly Luvaluva is also leading futures Australian Oaks betting at $6 after her last start win in the Group 3 Kembla Grange Classic (1600m) on March 16.

She has winning form up to 2000m having won Flemington’s Group 2 Wakeful Stakes over the distance in the spring before crossing under three lengths back fourth in the Group 1 VRC Oaks (2500m).

Aloisia meanwhile represents Caulfield’s Aaron Purcell, the daughter of Azamour looking for her first win since the big three and a half-length effort over the Darren Weir-trained Cliff’s Edge in the Group 2 Moonee Valley Vase (2040m) last Ladbrokes Cox Plate Day.

She ran a midfield sixth in the VRC Oaks after that and is looking to atone after her disappointing second-up 13^th to Grunt in the Group 1 Australian Guineas (1600m) on March 3.

In an open Vinery Stud Stakes market full of livewire chances ahead of Wednesday morning’s final acceptances there are three other single-figure fancies including Alizee ($7).

The James Cummings-trained, Godolphin-raced Sepoy filly was impressive first-up winning the Group 2 Light Fingers Stakes (1200m) before a sixth to Shoals when under two lengths beaten in the Surround Stakes.

She failed to finish in the money however in the Group 1 Coolmore Classic (1500m) against the older mares on March 17 finishing 13^th, albeit only two and quarter-lengths beaten from a wide barrier (15 of 17) in a blanket finish.

It is similar form Lucia Valentina took into the 2014 Vinery Stud Stakes, which she won off a lead-up 12^th in the Coolmore.

The VRC Oaks runner-up Bring Me Roses ($8) coming off a Coolmore 11^th that followed an Australian Guineas third and the ATC Oaks favourite Danzdanzdance ($9) over from New Zealand for the first time are the other key fancies.
