Ace hoop Damien Oliver has given the Kris Lees-trained Sasso Corbaro his tick of approval ahead of his maiden ride on the filly at the Gold Coast in the Magic Millions 3YO Guineas 2018 this weekend.

One of just four single-figure chances in betting for Saturday’s Restricted Listed $2 million Gold Coast Magic Millions 3YO Guineas (1400m), Sasso Corbaro is drawn wide out in gate 14.

Oliver comes aboard the daughter of All Too Hard for the first time in the lucrative summer showdown and could start her from barrier 12 if the two emergencies fail to gain a run.

“She looks to be very smart and she’s had a nice lead-in to the race so I’d be expecting her to race well,” Oliver, also recently announced as the autumn rider for the Peter Gelagotis-trained Pierro colt Levendi, told Racing Victoria.

Sasso Corbaro kicked off her career with back-to-back seconds at Canterbury last winter before kicking off a winning streak at Newcastle that July.

She has won her subsequent two summer lead-ups with success at Hawkesbury over 1100m by three lengths and her last start victory by a similarly impressive margin at Randwick on December 30 over 1300m in a three-year-old fillies’ Benchmark 76.

Coming back from 58.5kg that run where Blake Shinn had the ride, Sasso Corbaro is tipped to enjoy carrying 54kg on the weekend for her Queensland debut.

There may be work for Oliver to do from the wide gate, but his ride is listed as a solid $6 chance in the updated Magic Millions 3YO Guineas odds at Ladbrokes.com.au.

Occupying the second line of markets, Sasso Corbaro is still not rated a real threat to the red hot rails-drawn favourite Pierata ($2.40).

Shinn meanwhile is booked to partner rival Whypeeo ($18), the local Toby Edmonds-trained gelding out to atone for a lead-up eighth behind Pierata in the Group 3 Vo Rogue Plate (1350m) at Doomben on December 30.

Along with the in-form Pierata and Oliver’s mount Sasso Corbaro, the other best in Magic Millions 3YO Guineas betting this season are Goodfella ($9.50) and Wild Heart ($9.50) drawn in gates six and three respectively.

The Bjorn Baker-trained Snitzel colt Goodfella comes off a lead-up third in the Vo Rogue Plate when beaten under three lengths, while last start Wyong Magic Millions 3YO & 4YO Stakes champ Wild Heart represents Hawkes Racing.
