Tattersall’s Tiara 2017 Barrier No Worries for In Her Time

In Her Time can still salute for the 2017 Tattersall’s Tiara punters in Brisbane on Saturday according to her trainer Benjamin Smith who remains confident despite a wide barrier draw.

Last start runner-up at the track and distance in the $1.5 million Stradbroke Handicap, In Her Time retained her spot at the top of the odds for this weekend’s $500,000 Group 1 Tattersall’s Tiara (1350m) following Wednesday’s final field and barrier draw.

The fillies and mares classic runs at Doomben Racecourse this winter and attracted a capacity line-up including Smith’s talented Time Thief four-year-old In Her Time.

The Newcastle-trained mare drew barrier 16, but if the race’s five emergencies come out she’ll come into barrier 13.

A fortnight back she jumped from a similar gate (12 of 16) for the Stradbroke Handicap with light weight hoop Dean Yendall guiding her to a brave second behind three-year-old Impending who ran her down in the dying stages.

“It was disappointing to get run down in the Stradbroke but she’s pulled up the best she’s ever done,” Smith told Racing Queensland this week.

“The jury was out whether she was up to Group 1 class but she’s proven she is after her Stradbroke run.

“She’s only had 13 starts and is still new to the racing game.

“She had a couple of problems with cardiac arrhythmia early in her career but she’s over it now.

“She first got it in the [Group 2] Tea Rose at her second start when she ran a long last and then she got it a second time in her next preparation.

“I gave her a long spell and let her mature and there’s been no further problems.”

In Her Time carried only 53.5kg in the Straddie and under the weight-for-age conditions of the Tiara, comes up to 57kg with Joshua Parr coming on for the ride.

Back against her own kind the weight presents as a non-issue, as does the barrier according to Smith.

“The barrier won’t worry her so long as she’s travelling,” he said on Wednesday.

“It’s not the end of the world. She jumped from 12 in the Stradbroke and she comes into 13 if the emergencies don’t run.”

The bookies agree with In Her Time leading the latest Tattersall’s Tiara odds at Ladbrokes.com.au paying $3.30 to become the third four-year-old in as many years to salute.

In Her Time looked in fine form on Tuesday morning with Parr, also in the saddle for her first-up fifth in the Group 1 Doomben 10,000 (1200m) in mid-May, putting her through her paces.

Parr has a nice association with the $674,000 earner riding her to victory in February at Rosehill in the Group 2 Millie Fox Stakes (1300m).

That followed an early Group 2 success at Randwick where apprentice Andrew Adkins got In Her Time first past the post over Egyptian Symbol (2nd) and Flippant (3rd) in the Breeders Classic.

Smith is also looking ahead to the Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival with In Her Time naming the Group 1 Manikato Stakes (1200m) on Cox Plate Eve as a likely elite level target at Moonee Valley.

“All going well she’ll kick off in the Manikato Stakes in Melbourne,” he said.

“It all depends on her where she goes after that but I’d love to run her down the straight at Flemington in the Darley Classic.”

The $1 million Group 1 Darley Classic (1200m) takes place on the last day of the Melbourne Cup Carnival on the second Saturday in November.

To back In Her Time this weekend at the right Tatt’s Tiara 2017 odds head to Ladbrokes.com.au.
