The final Group 1 of the Australian racing season takes place at Eagle Farm on Saturday, and the punters are faced with a tough assignment with a wide-open edition of the Tattersall’s Tiara in 2026.

A capacity field of fillies and mares is gathered for the last of the Winter Carnival feature races, and the bookies are having a hard time separating the best from the rest in this year’s Group 1 $700,000 Tattersall’s Tiara (1400m).

Currently five female gallopers are under $10 for the win including a very tight Tatt’s Tiara betting battle for favouritism, with Splash Back having firmed back into $6 to lead the latest markets at Ladbrokes.com.au.

The Grahame Begg-trained Le Harve six-year-old boasts a very good record over the distance (9:4-2-0) and is looking to get back in the winner’s stall since her Group 2 Victory Stakes (1200m) win here at Eagle Farm on May 2 when she put nearly two lengths on Payline on a Heavy going track.

She’s been out of the money in her latest two starts including her last start sixth in Queensland’s premier race – the Stradbroke.

That was run on a Heavy (9) and, while the sting remains out of the track for Saturday’s racing in Brisbane, the Soft rated course should be more to her liking as will the WFA conditions of the Tiara.

Jordan Childs comes back aboard from a favourable mid-field draw and Splash Back has well equipped herself for a race like this after being far from disgraced in elite company this prep.

Who will jump next best in Tatt’s Tiara betting by race time is anyone’s guess with a trio of runners all currently occupying the second line of the markets at $6.50: Manaal, Tuileries and Gerringong.

Manaal is a four-year-old daughter of Tassort who hails from the Michael Freedman stables, and Saturday sees her line-up at Eagle Farm for just the second time.

A class type on her day, she’s a proven Group 1 winner – the sole elite level champ in a far from vintage edition of the Tiara – having claimed victory in the 2024 Inglis Sires’ at Randwick as a filly but she has been winless since her Group 2 Golden Pendant triumph at Rosehill last September.

That said, she caught the eye fresh here in the Group 2 Moreton Cup on June 6 only a length off Uncommon James and should appreciate lining up against her own kind here.

As honest as the Flemington straight is long, Manaal is traditionally at her best second-up so presents fitter for her resuming run and Ben Melham will know where to place her at the right time.

The Peter Snowden-trained Tuileries is also getting plenty of love in the Tatt’s Tiara odds online after the So You Think four-year-old’s last start win at Scone in the Group 3 Dark Jewel Classic.

At double-figures from a wide alley (15) with 59.5kg on her back she went on to outrun her price and salute by three-quarters of a length in a win full of merit.

Put away after that explosive performance just under two months back, she arrives in Brisbane fresh and maps well.

Yet to run at the track, she also prefers a Good surface so how she handles the Slow going will be key, but Chad Schofield retains the ride, and she’s drawn a dream in gate three to settle closer to the speed and go on with the job.

Snowden is also chasing back-to-back wins following his 2025 Tiara victory with Tashi.

Gerringong is the other runner the bookies are wary of leaving out of the mix, and with good reason.

Despite the wide alley, which is a concern, she remains a major player, and after early support saw her crunched into brief favouritism, she’s drifted back to an appealing quote.

Second-up and primed, she arrives off an excellent stable debut for the Munce team a fortnight ago, producing a flashing second in the Group 2 Dane Ripper over 1300m on a Heavy track.

That run had plenty of substance — she surged from midfield and was beaten only a nose by She’s Got Pizzazz, and historically that has been a standout form line race to follow into the Tattersall’s Tiara.

While she hasn’t yet won beyond 1100m, she’s twice placed at 1400m, including a narrow defeat to top mare Stefi Magnetica in The Invitation last spring, and her latest effort suggests the trip won’t trouble her.

Nash Rawiller jumps back aboard and knows exactly how to get the best out of her, and in a Tiara lacking standout depth, she’s right in the thick of the winning chances.

The last of the single-figure fancies meanwhile at $8 and firming is the Bjorn Baker-trained Within The Law.

The sole filly taking on the older mares in the race, the daughter of Lucky Vega is out to be the first three-year-old to win since Startantes in 2022.

She lines-up at Eagle Farm for the third time on the trot following her back-to-back placings here at Group 3 level, the latest of which had her beaten by three lengths by Skyhook in the Gunsynd Classic over the mile.

Within The Law went around as favourite that day but couldn’t match the winner late, but there are plenty happy to forgive that effort with the drop back in trip looking ideal and the addition of blinkers to help sharpen her right up.

Of the longer priced contenders those looking most likely to strike include Rob Heathcote’s early market mover Abounding ($18) who narrowly won the Group 3 Ladbrokes BRC Sprint two back at Doomben, Midnight In Tokyo ($16) with the outside alley to overcome but coming off a last start upset in the Listed Hinkler Handicap and the Liam Ruddy-trained Melody Again ($13) running second-up with form around this level.
