Black Caviar

Black Caviar will next race in the TJ Smith Stakes at Randwick

After extending her record breaking streak to 11 straight, the world’s highest-rated sprinter Black Caviar will have her next race in the $1 million Group 1 TJ Smith Stakes (1200m) on Australian Derby Day at Randwick on Saturday April 9.

A weight-for-age race one by the likes of Melito (2010), Takeover Target (2009) and Apache Cat (2008) in recent years will see Peter Moody’s unbeaten daughter of Bel Esprit attempt her 12 successive win since debuting in April of 2009.

On Friday March 25 Black Caviar became a four time Group 1 winner with her smart victory in the William Reid Stakes at Moonee Valley.

It was her third start for the season and third elite level win this year having made a mess of her rivals at Flemington in the Newmarket Handicap (1200m) on March 12 and before that the Lightning Stakes (1000m) on February 19.

Her breakthrough Group 1 success was in the spring when she claimed an incredible four length victory in the Group 1 Patinack Farm Classic (1200m) on Emirates Stakes Day.

Black Caviar was just days ago officially recognised as the world’s best racehorse with the first international rankings for 2011 released.

All of Black Caviar’s emphatic wins have been in Melbourne and the TJ Smith Stakes will be the mighty mare’s maiden Sydney run.

Nominations for the 2011 TJ Smith Stakes will be released on Monday April 4 followed by the final field of acceptances on Wednesday April 6.
