Gold Coast based jockey Glen Colless will be looking to keep his winning record intact when he re-unites with Tyzone in the 2018 Listed $160,000 GDSC Ramornie Handicap (1200m) at Grafton today.

Colless has had one ride on Tyzone for a win in a restricted class handicap at Doomben back in February 2017 and trainer Toby Edmonds has called on his services again after regular rider Jeff Lloyd preferred to ride at today’s Ipswich meeting.

Lloyd has been aboard Tyzone for his last three starts this campaign for a win at the Gold Coast and at Doomben in restricted grade before a last start second to I’m A Rippa in the Listed $175,000 City Of Ipswich Eye Liner Stakes (1350m) at Ipswich on June 16.

The premiership winning jockey has just returned from a riding stint in his home country of South Africa and elected to take rides at Ipswich as opposed to Grafton.

“Jeff Lloyd will be back from South Africa on Tuesday but he wasn’t keen to go to Grafton so close to getting back,” Edmonds said.

“Glen is a multiple Group One winning jockey and he has won a stack of races for us.”

“Tyzone is a pretty foolproof horse and Glen will suit him.”

Tyzone has been solidly backed and is the current $3.80 favourite for the Ramornie Handicap with Ladbrokes.com.au and Edmonds is expecting the four year old to be very hard to beat.

“We had the Eye Liner and Ramornie in mind for him all along. He has done well since the Eye Liner and I would be disappointed if he didn’t race well,” Edmonds said.

Edmonds will also saddle the $4.20 second favourite Havasay with regular rider Matt McGillivray in the saddle again while the leading Gold Coast trainer’s third runner Siegfried, with Craig Newiit booked to ride, is one of the outsiders of the field at $31.

Havasay is a recent acquisition to the Edmonds stable as his former trainer Liam Birchley is banned from running his horses in New South Wales pending the outcome of his appeal for a one year disqualification arising out of the Aquanita inquiry and the Rothesay gelding is coming off a last start third in the Group 3 $175,000 W.J. Healy Stakes (1200m) at Doomben on June 23.
