2019 Tatt’s Tiara Field & Barriers: Favourites Draw Wide

A number of the top-fancied mares to take out the Tatt’s Tiara 2019 in Brisbane on Saturday have suffered wide gates at Wednesday’s barrier draw for the final Group 1 of the season.

Pre-field favourite Savatiano was one of the worst hit for the Group 1 $500,000 Tattersall’s Tiara (1400m), the James Cummings-trained Glenlogan Park Stakes winner drawing barrier 15.

The four-year-old daughter of Street Cry has retained her top spot in Tatt’s Tiara betting at Ladbrokes.com.au despite the draw, which will become barrier 12 at best with all five emergencies out.

Godolphin have three runners in the capacity Tattersall’s Tiara field this Queensland Winter Racing Carnival with Savatiano joined in the line-up by stablemates Multaja (13) and Pohutukawa (5) – both three-year-old Medaglia D’Oro fillies.

Multaja is in flying form ahead of her acid test on Saturday having finished top two in her last five runs including a Group 3 PJ Bell Stakes win at Randwick back in April.

She comes off a winning lead-up at Doomben from June 1 when she jumped from a similarly wide gate (12 of 14) to take out the Listed Helen Coughlan Stakes (1200m) by nearly two lengths.

Her well-fancied stablemate Pohutukawa was one of the big winners at the Tatt’s Tiara barrier draw coming up with gate five.

Another Group 3 winner in Sydney over the autumn, she is down in distance but up in grade after her brave third when under a length off the winner Kolding in the Group 2 Queensland Guineas (1600m) here on June 8.

Twelve months ago, class mare Prompt Response won the Tiara from barrier three of 16 for Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott.

This weekend the now five-year-old daughter of Beneteau returns chasing back-to-back victories and has transferred stables to premier horseman Chris Waller.

She won the traditional lead-up race, the Group 2 Dane Ripper Stakes, in 2017 and finished runner-up in the event in 2018.

This season Prompt Response comes off a third in the Dane Ripper, which ran back at Eagle Farm over 1400m on Stradbroke Day, when carrying 60kg behind her stablemate Invincibella.

The defending Tattersall’s Tiara winner has work to do from a wide barrier 14 draw in 2019, but comes back to 57kg at weight-for-age.

She is one of five final acceptors for Waller whose other standout hope is the dual Dane Ripper Stakes champ Invincibella drawn barrier nine.

Noire (11), dual Oaks winner Egg Tart (19) and Eckstein (18) round out the Waller-trained Tiara contingent this winter.

Garry Frazer’s The Everest 2019 hopeful Spright chases another Group 1 win in the Tiara on the back of a luckless fourth to Trekking in the Group 1 $1.5 million Stradbroke Handicap (1400m) last time out.

The Hinchinbrook mare won Adelaide’s Group 1 Robert Sangster Stakes earlier this prep before a third in The Goodwood, and is drawn gate 10 for hoop Michael Cahill this Saturday.

Another widely-drawn chance in barrier 16 is the Kris Lees-trained Princess Posh who comes off a second behind The Bostonian in the Group 1 Kingsford-Smith Cup (1300m) back on May 25 as a triple-figure chance.
