After the Rosehill Guineas win by NZ Derby winner Gingernuts last weekend the other two best over the line Kiwi race headline Tulloch Stakes 2017 nominations at Rosehill Gardens this Saturday.
The Stephen Autridge & Jamie Richards-trained Gingernuts won the Group 1 NZ Derby (2400m) across the Tasman on March 4 ahead of his debut run down under.
He franked the Kiwi form once again, becoming the fourth New Zealand-trained three-year-old to win the Rosehill Guineas since 2011 with a dominant two and a quarter-length win in the Golden Slipper Day race at Rosehill.
Gingernuts relished the bottomless Heavy (10) track for the Rosehill Guineas win and it is likely to be similar racing conditions for The BMW Stakes Day back at the same course on Saturday.
A key support act on the card is the $200,000 Group 2 Tulloch Stakes (2000m) for three-year-old colts and geldings that could possibly back-up at Randwick on April 7 in the Group 1 Australian Derby (2400m).
Racing NSW received a strong line-up of twenty Tulloch Stakes nominations and already the bookies are taking no chances with the Kiwis in the mix.
Leading the pre-field Tulloch Stakes odds online at Ladbrokes.com.au at $4.20 is Rising Red, last seen finishing a length back second to Gingernuts in the NZ Derby.
The Redwood gelding is officially raced at Cranbourne by NZ expats Trent Busuttin & Natalie Young and has done all of his racing prior to his last start in Victoria.
Saturday will mark his first Sydney assignment and all going well he’ll head into the Australian Derby, betting on which currently has him at $11.
Occupying the second line of all-in Tulloch Stakes betting paying $5 is the NZ Derby third placegetter Jon Snow trained in Cambridge across the Tasman by Murray Baker & Andrew Forsman.
The Ifffraaj colt has won just one of his ten career starts at home to date, but is well-fancied to thrive in the wet in Sydney starting with the Tulloch Stakes this weekend.
The other best fancied in the pre-field Tulloch Stakes markets for Saturday is the spring’s Victoria Derby winner Prized Icon.
James Cummings’ More Than Ready colt ran second two back in the Group 1 Australian Guineas (1600m) at Flemington, before his disappointing tenth when seventeen lengths off Gingernuts in the Rosehill Guineas.
He is tipped to improve this weekend, but didn’t look to handle the mud and if he gets similar track conditions again will be a drifter in betting.
Getting back to the Kiwi raid, another in-form visitor is out to make a mark on the three-years-old staying races of the Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival with Donna Logan nominating for Comin’through.
The Bullbars gelding is a three-time winner in New Zealand including his past two on the trot in March over 2100m at Ellerslie.
Other notable Tulloch Stakes entries include the Lee & Anthony Freedman-trained Autumn Classic runner-up Cliff Hanger who was scratched from last Friday night’s Alister Clark Stakes in Melbourne and Sebring colt Acatour for Peter & Paul Snowden.
See below for the full Tulloch Stakes 2017 nominations, the field and barriers followed by updated odds at Ladbrokes.com.au set for release on Wednesday.
