Gingernuts has continued his outstanding run of form at Rosehill Gardens this afternoon; making an ideal debut to Australian racing with a dominant win in the Group 1 Rosehill Guineas (2000m).
Gingernuts was last seen savaging the line for a dominant win in the Group 1 New Zealand Derby (2400m), and the Kiwi raider was settled within the field of twelve as Harper’s Choice and Comin’ Through set the early pace.
Pulled into open running rounding onto the final straight, jockey Opie Bosson was immediately greeted with a big turn of foot when he asked for an extra effort 300 metres from home; kicking clear and sustaining well to the line to comfortably beat Inference and So Si Bon.
Co-trainer Jamie Richards crossed the ditch to watch Gingernuts win the Rosehill Guineas and believes that the horse will prove tough to beat in the Group 1 Australian Derby (2400m) at Randwick in a fortnight.
“It’s huge, it was a great effort,” Richards said after the race.
“It’s been a long day waiting for this and watching Winx, but I’m really pleased for the team at home.
“It’s great for the industry when horses like this step up and it looks like he’s going to be hard to beat in two weeks’ time.
“His last gallop last Saturday morning before he came over was on a track similar to this and got through it really well.
“Obviously race pressure it a lot different, but he just seems to go in everything and since we’ve stepped him up to 2000m he’s really come right.
“It’s a huge buzz and it’s just great to be a part of it.”
Race favourite Inference kept his best work for the dying stages of the Rosehill Guineas and ran on well to finish second, while So Si Bon produced a typically smart performance to round out the minors.
Punters who backed Gingernuts to win the Rosehill Guineas at Ladbrokes.com.au have been paid out on odds as good as $7!
