As part of the action of this Saturday’s Caulfield Cup Day, a capacity field of 16 star mares will take to the Caulfield track to contest the $180,000 Group 2 Tristarc Stakes (1400m).
Sure to start at the top of the odds through [sportsbet] in the 2010 Tristarc Stakes is Les Bridge’s champion mare Hot Danish.
Equal top-weight with 57.5kg, seven-year-old Hot Danish is a dual Group 1 winner from last season and burst back onto the racing scene with back-to-back Group wins this spring.
First-up the daughter of Nothin’ Leica Dane claimed victory in the Premiere Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill and then last start she won The Shorts (1200m) at Randwick.
Hot Danish, however, has suffered a blow in her first start in Melbourne for the season drawing wide with barrier 12 for the Tristarc Stakes.
Hot Danish started as the hot favourite in last year’s Tristarc Stakes going on to finish second to Typhoon Tracy and will be looking to go one better this weekend.
The other top rated runner in the Tristarc Stakes field for Saturday is the Grahame Begg-trained Palacio De Cristal.
Also set to carry 57.5kg, Encosta De Lago five-year-old Palacio De Cristal is coming off a first-up win in the Blazer Stakes at Flemington and has drawn ideally with barrier three.
Blazer Stakes runner-up, John Thompson’s consistent Shamardal mare No Evidence Needed is also backing up in the Tristarc Stakes.
No Evidence Needed has shown great form in Melbourne this season winning the Let’s Elope Stakes before finishing second in the Group 1 Rupert Clarke Stakes and the Blazer.
An awkward barrier 14 draw makes Saturday a tougher test for No Evidence Needed but she still looks at excellent Place chance at good odds through [sportsbet].
Other notable Tristarc Stakes runners include Gai Waterhouse’s Montana Flyer and the Peter Moody-trained Live In Sin.
The 2010 Harrolds Tristarc Stakes is set to run as Race 9 at Caulfield on Saturday, due to jump at 4:50 (AEDST).
The feature highlight on the card is the $2.5 million Caulfield Cup (2400m) where Metal Bender is the current favourite.
