The BMW 2017 Betting: Our Ivanhowe v Jameka

Last weekend’s Ranvet Stakes winner Our Ivanhowe is the early 2017 The BMW betting market mover and has firmed into co-favouritism to win the weight-for-age feature this weekend with class mare Jameka.

Due to run as Rosehill Race 6 at 3:30pm (AEDT) on Saturday afternoon, this season’s $1.5 million Group 1 The BMW (2400m) features a final field of just nine runners.

After opening at a quote of $4.50 in The BMW odds at Ladbrokes.com.au, the Lee & Anthony Freedman-trained veteran Our Ivanhowe has since been backed right into $3.90 to win two Group 1s in as many Saturdays.

Last weekend on Golden Slipper Stakes Day at Rosehill Gardens the seven-year-old German import posted an upset three and a quarter length win over odds-on favourite Hartnell in the Group 1 Ranvet Stakes (2000m).

Our Ivanhowe thrived on the Heavy (10) track and is set to get similar conditions on Saturday out to complete the Ranvet Stakes – The BMW race double for the first time since Silent Achiever (2014).

Also at $3.90 in The BMW betting is the reigning Caulfield Cup winner Jameka who has been crying out for the distance.

The Ciaron Maher-trained daughter of Myboycharlie races fourth-up on Saturday with Hugh Bowman retaining the ride.

Bowman rode the mare for her last start second in Flemington’s Group 1 Australian Cup (2000m) when she was beaten only a quarter-length.

The step-up to the mile and a half this weekend should suit as Jameka searches for her maiden win since the Group 1 Caulfield Cup (2400m) last October.

Bowman meanwhile is after his third The BMW winning ride in five years after previous success aboard Fiveandahalfstar (2013) and Preferment (2016).

Saturday however will be Jameka’s first Sydney assignment since her fourth to Sofia Rosa in last April’s Group 1 ATC Oaks (2400m).

In a tight The BMW betting affair a further three hopes sit under $10 for the win including Darren Weir’s Australian Cup winner Humidor ($4.60).

The Teofilo four-year-old improved on two seconds at Caulfield to beat home Jameka in the Australian Cup on March 11 and is now out to do the double Preferment did last autumn.

Hot on his heels at $5 is fellow last start winner Tavago, the Trent Busuttin & Natalie Young-trained Tavistock four-year-old coming off a runaway victory in the Group 3 Sky High Stakes (2000m) at Rosehill a fortnight back.

The step-up to a mile and a half is a non-issue for Tavago who won last year’s ATC Derby at Randwick over the distance and who is in the right form to present as a danger on Saturday.

Exospheric has eased out from $8 to $9.50 and rounds out the single figure fancies.

Stablemate to Our Ivanhowe, the fellow Team Freedman-trained import is drawn the rails on Saturday and is out to improve on his third to Humidor in the Australian Cup.
