2016 Missile Stakes Likely for Capitalist

Trainer Peter Snowden has underlined the Group 2 Missile Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill Gardens on August 6th as the likely-to-be first point of call for champion colt Capitalist during the Spring Racing Carnival.

Capitalist has fast stamped himself as the stable star for the renowned Snowden operation through his short five starts career so far; posting four wins and a close second for more than $3.5 million in prize money.

Snowden told AAP he has been pleased with the benefit taken by the Group 1 winner in his time away from racing, and has so-far experienced no hiccups in the lead-up to his 2016 Spring Carnival campaign.

“He trials this Friday and possibly has another trial and then possibly he’ll run in the Missile Stakes on the sixth of August,” Snowden said.

“He had five or six weeks off and he’s been in work about two-and-a-half months. So far, touch wood, everything is going fine.

“I’m happy with his work and his attitude is good. All is good.”

Underlining the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) at Flemington in late October as the major target for the rising three-year-old, Snowden confirmed the team is yet to settle on a specific path for Capitalist to follow this time.

“We’ll just go one race at a time. The Coolmore is definitely on the radar. That’s the ultimate goal,” Snowden said.

“He’ll probably have a three-race preparation, then a short break, and then come back again for the end of the carnival. When you’ve got them up and racing in August, it’s a long time until November.

“I’d say he’ll have three runs and then a short break and then come back and have one lead-up into the Coolmore, or something like that.

“The Missile is his first run and then maybe the Run To The Rose. We’ll just take one race at a time.”

Capitalist stamped himself as a colt to follow when debuting to racing for a three length win in the Listed Breeders’ Plate (1000m) at Randwick in October last year; returning in December for a similarly-dominant win in the Wyong Magic Millions 2.y.o Classic (1100m).

Delivering a classy field another resounding defeat in the Gold Coast Magic Millions 2.y.o Guineas (1200m) on January 9th, the Written Tycoon colt failed to justify his resounding favouritism when second in the Group 2 Todman Stakes (1200m) first-up in autumn, but responded with a comfortable win in the major Group 1 Golden Slipper (1200m).
