Zasorceress a Chance in 2016 Queensland Oaks

Jason Warren is thrilled with the condition of Zasorceress, and is confident the three-year-old filly is primed for a big performance in Saturday’s Group 1 Queensland Oaks (2400m) at Eagle Farm Racecourse.

Zasorceress has stamped herself as a filly to follow through her short eight start career so far, and will carry winning form into the Queensland Oaks after producing a smart effort to take out the Food Traders Australia Maiden (1800m) with complete ease on the Gold Coast a fortnight ago.

Believing the ‘soft kill’ has done the daughter of Zabeel well, Warren told Racing Ahead he has no doubt Zasorceress will relish the conditions of the Queensland Oaks 2016 and believes she will be right in the finish of the feature race.

“Our girl has drawn barrier 17, so we’ll probably be back and wide in the straight so it (weather) might play into our hands,” Warren said.

“It was a very wet track in Sydney when she ran third in the Adrian Knox and I can’t see any reason why she won’t handle a heavy track, and the distance won’t be a problem for us either.

“I think she’s taken a lot of confidence from her win. Her track work since the win has suggested she’s really up and about, so I’m really looking forward to Saturday.

“The question mark is if she’s up to the class. She’s definitely got the ability to stay the trip and that’s a big thing in these three-year-old fillies’ races.

“We gave her a nice freshen-up following her last start in Sydney, she went out to a spelling farm. She came to Queensland in such good order that the race on the Gold Coast was just a nice gallop to top her off, to have her back to her peak fitness.

“It is a wide-open race and once you get beyond 2000m these races change complexion quite a lot, so hopefully our girl is one of the strong chances.”

Trialling well in the lead-up to her debut, Zasorceress ran a credible fourth in the Schweppes Maiden Plate (1400m) at Bendigo in early September; returning to the paddock after again finishing fourth in the Evergreen Turf Maiden Plate (1600m) at Ballarat three weeks later.

Resuming this time for fourth in the Hyland Race Colours Maiden Plate (1300m), the filly out of Star Jasmine was luckless when sixth in the XXXX Gold Maiden Plate (1600m) at Pakenham on February 25th before responded well with a strong run for third in the BMD Urban Plate (1600m) and career-best performance to date for third in the Group 3 Adrian Knox Stakes (2000m) on Day 1 of The Championships.

Having returned to the paddock for a freshen-up after placing seventh in the Group 3 Frank Packer Plate (2000m) on April 16th, Zasorceress is currently available at 2016 Queensland Oaks odds of $26 for success with leading online bookie Ladbrokes.com.au, or $8.10 to finish in the first three.
