The weather trackside at Doomben in Ascot is ideal for racing today, the sun out all day with no chance of rain and a cool top of 22 degrees to keep the race goers happy.

The track was rated a Soft (5) at 7:45am (AEST) this morning, and with only partly cloudy conditions and plenty of wind there is likely to be an upgrade throughout the course of the day.

The headline race is of course the 2015 Doomben 10,000 running as Race 8 and featuring a capacity field of 16, Ladbrokes.com.au offering punters Best Tote or SP + 20% on today’s Group 1!

Doomben Scratchings – 23/05/2015

Total Scratchings: 7

Race 1 (11:32am) – $125,000 Group 3 Channel 7 Premier’s Cup (2020m)

#8 Shotover River (4)

The single scratching from an already undersized field for the day’s opener sees seven left to face off in the handicap clash, the markets a wide open affair narrowly topped by cups specialist Wish Come True ($3.80).

Race 2 (12:07pm) – $150,000 Group 3 Glenlogan Park Stakes (1350m)

No current scratchings

All 12 original final acceptors in the fillies-and-mares’ feature are still in the mix with the Peter & Paul Snowden-trained I’ve Got The Looks ($3.80) leading the markets as the in-form daughter of Choisir shoots for her third Queensland black type win on the trot to complete the same hat-trick Srikandi did last winter.

Race 3 (12:42pm) – $100,000 Listed Landfill Logistics Ascot Handicap (1200m)

#5 Mr Favulous (13)

The widest-drawn runner of this handicap sprint comes out leaving a dozen hopefuls, of which the bookies best rate the chances of Chris Waller’s last start Group 2 Arrowfield 3YO Sprint (1200m) winner in the wet back home in Sydney Delectation ($2.50) to get the job done with the 59kg top weight.

Race 4 (1:17pm) – $125,000 Group 3 Programmed Property Services Lord Mayor’s Cup (1600m)

No current scratchings

The 11 final acceptors all remain in this weight-for-age mile clash with the current favourite being another Waller-trained Sydney raider, I’m Imposing ($4), the veteran nine-year-old having run third in both the Group 2 AD Hollindale Stakes (1800m) on the Gold Coast and the Group 1 Doomben Cup (2000m) here in his last two runs.

Race 5 (1:57pm) – $150,000 Group 3 Mullins Lawyers Grand Prix Stakes (2020m)

#13 Freezeligtning (15)

The emergency runner Sam De Hero comes in for his scratched stablemate in this Group 1 Queensland Derby (2200m) lead-up where all the money is on the widely-drawn Waller-trained market mover Sadler’s Lake ($4.60 into $3.80), the High Chaparral gelding coming off a win in the Group 3 Rough Habit Plate (2000m) at the same track and distance from May 9.

Race 6 (2:37pm) – $250,000 Group 2 Mitavite Australia BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1350m)

#15 Princess Charm (9)

This two-year-olds race is down to 15 starters, markets on the Group 1 JJ Atkins (1600m) lead-up featuring a number of livewire chances with the drifting favourite being the local Liam Birchley-trained filly Blueberry Hill ($4.80) who beat home a number of these in the Group 2 Champagne Classic (1200m) earlier in the month.

Race 7 (3:17pm) – $175,000 Group 2 Urbis The Roses (2020m)

#2 Ballet Suite (8), #8 Sebrina (13)

Two of the top fancies come out of the Group 1 Queensland Oaks (2200m) lead-up including the short-priced favourite Ballet Suite who trainer Chris Waller will run between races today instead of the official start. Markets are now firmly led by the visiting Kiwi Platinum Witness ($2.50) who was runner-up in the NZ Oaks over the 2400m recently.

Race 8 (3:57pm) – $750,000 Group 1 James Boag’s Premium Doomben 10,000 (1350m)

#17e Nite Rocker (3)

The only withdrawal from the day’s feature is the emergency runner. The full 16 starters are ready then to face off with Doomben 10,000 betting at Ladbrokes.com.au a pretty open affair this year with current $5.50 favourite Srikandi looking to atone for her luckless BTC Cup eighth last time out.

Race 9 (4:32pm) – $125,000 Group 3 Suez Environment Fred Best Classic (1350m)

No current scratchings

A big field of 16 to face off in the three-year-olds set weights race to close the card, markets for the last firmly led by Gai Waterhouse’s flying filly Najoom ($3) who has the wide barrier (15) but the Group 3 Hawkesbury Guineas winning form.
