Kicking off the Doomben 10,000 Day action as Race 1 at 11:32am (AEST), this year’s $125,000 Group 3 Channel 7 Premier’s Cup (2020m) features a final field of only eight hopefuls.

The top rated, weighted and best fancied in the Premier’s Cup odds at Ladbrokes.com.au currently paying $3.40 for the win is the Moody-trained Aussie Rules gelding Wish Come True.

The in-form five-year-old comes off four straight cup runs having run fourth or better in all four.

He ran second in the Kilmore Cup and Yarra Valley Cup over 1600m and 1950m respectively earlier in the autumn, and then finished under two lengths away fourth behind Banca Mo in the Listed Mornington Cup (2400m) in late March.

His latest run was then in the Toowoomba Cup (2150m) on May 2 where he crossed fourth again beaten under two lengths this time by subsequent Doomben Cup winner Pornichet.

On Saturday he runs at Doomben Racecourse for the first time and goes up from 56.5kg to 59kg but has a good barrier five draw, Glen Boss aboard and an easier class of rivals.

It is a wide open Premier’s Cup betting market this year with all but two of Wish Come True’s six rivals also under double figures for the win.

The next best in betting at an equal $4.20 are Faust and market mover Baligari drawn in barriers seven and six respectively.

Top Sydney hoop James McDonald rides Kurt Goldman’s Librettist gelding Faust on Saturday, the five-year-old having won the Canberra Cup over 2000m in early March and finished second last time out in the Wagga Wagga Gold Cup over the same distance at the start of May.

Lloyd Kennewell then prepares Baligari who Joe Bowditch will ride, the Adelaide raider coming off a fourth behind Bewhatyouwannabe from the Listed Members’ Handicap (1600m) at Doomben on May 9.

Third favourite at $5 is the rails-drawn Hvasstan, Tony Gollan’s Members’ Handicap fourth placed stallion to be ridden by Tommy Berry again this time on 54.5kg.

Finishing off the single figure hopes are then Gollan’s other runner Hi Son ($8.50) out to atone for a 10th in the Toowoomba Cup and the Chris Waller-trained Commands four-year-old Vilanova ($9) drawn in gates three and two respectively.

The Premier’s Cup field and markets is then completed by Brian Smith’s local seven-year-old Jetset Lad ($13) and roughie of the pack Shotover River ($51) in barrier four after the boilover.
