2014 Jungle Dawn Classic Nominations Released

19 horses have been nominated for the Listed Jungle Dawn Classic (1400m) on Saturday at Ascot Racecourse.

The 2014 Jungle Dawn Classic is one of six black-type races running on Kingston Town Classic Day, with prize money totaling $100,000.

Of the 19 nominated horses, two are headlining the field – Cool Trade and Miss Rose De Lago. Both horses will carry the top weight of 59kg, which is up to four kilos more than their rivals.

The Alan Matthews-trained Cool Trade has won more than half of her 11 career starts. The four-year-old mare enjoyed five consecutive benchmark wins during May but has had less success in her three black-type races. She was third in the Listed Burgess Queen Stakes (1400m) in November last year before finishing third last in the Group 3 WA Champion Fillies Stakes (1600m) two weeks later.

Her only other black-type race was the Listed Jungle Mist Classic (1200m) on November 22, in which she finished one length off the win in second place.

Simon A Miller’s Miss Rose De Lago has finished in the first three eight times from her 14 career starts. The four-year-old mare has had her fair share of black-type racing success, winning both the Burgess Queen Stakes and WA Champion Fillies Stakes last year, putting her ahead of Cool Trade in form.

The mare also finished runner-up in the Group 3 Northerly Stakes (1400m) in October but had less luck in November, failing to place in both the Group 3 RJ Peters Stakes (1500m) and Listed WA Stakes (1400m).

Grant WilliamsAntique Belle and Adam Durrant’s Real Love are the only two other horses carrying more than the 55kg minimum weight.

Antique Belle will carry 58.5kg after winning the Jungle Mist Classic last time out while Real Love will carry 56kg. The four-year-old mare has finished in the first three in eight of her ten career starts, five of which were black-type races.

Real Love finished runner-up in the Group 3 WA Oaks (2400m) back in Match before taking a minor placing from the Group 2 WATC Derby (2400m) the following month.

The mare has finished in the first two in all three of her starts this campaign, including two benchmarks 72. Last time out the mare was runner-up in the Listed WA Stakes (1400m), just half a length off winner Black Heart Bart.

Neville Parnham’s Vital Importance is the highest rated nominee carrying the minimum weight of 55kg. The four-year-old mare has run in over 20 races to date, six of which she won.
