Aiming for a third consecutive victory when lining up for this weekend’s Rosehill Gardens feature, trainer Jason Coyle is confident a small rest and overall campaign pattern will play into the strengths of exciting sprinter Scream Machine in the 2014 Listed Winter Stakes (1400m).

A notable performer over four race starts this time in, Scream Machine displayed a keen turn of foot to finish third in the Power Access 3.y.o+ (1350m) first-up on May 10^th before running on from the rear of the field to finish sixth in the Group 1 Doomben 10,000 (1350m) two weeks later.

Having since won the Sydney Markets Limited Handicap (1400m) and Natski Handicap (1500m) after unluckily missing the cut for the featured Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap (1400m) on June 7^th, Coyle believes fellow frontrunner and Civic Stakes champion Generalife is Scream Machine’s major threat, however is confident his runner’s recent form will count  for a lot in the 2014 Winter Stakes.

“Generalife is probably a start or two behind him, he is a horse coming through the grades carrying 56.5kg, my horse has gone from 54.5kg to 56.5kg and earned his 58kg,” Coyle told TVN.

“Both horses are racing in good form and I would struggle to see anything else beating them.

“When you are running up in the Doomben 10,000 and aiming for a Stradbroke, you are at your peak early. It has just been a matter of keeping him where he is at over the last six weeks after coming back from Queensland. He has been holding his condition well and obviously racing very well.

“The plan was to have the three weeks between runs (after his last win), we had the option of maybe going to the Civic Stakes last week but decided that the three weeks between runs back to the 1400m might suit him a little better.”

Allocated the wide and relatively awkward barrier 10, Coyle is confident retaining and in-form jockey Tye Angland will have no issue in finding ideal running position for the Excites gelding in the Winter Stakes.

“Tye seems to have him sorted out, there won’t be much to talk about before the race,” Coyle added.

“I think he will have a good idea about what he wants to do, if he can hold his form he will be more than competitive on Saturday.”
