Berry on top of Cosmic Endeavour in Tatt’s Tiara 2014

Flying hoop Tommy Berry will stick with the Gai Waterhouse-trained Cosmic Endeavour when she steps up to elite level company for Saturday’s 2014 Tattersall’s Tiara in Brisbane.

Berry will return from Hong Kong to attempt a Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival double with the Northern Meteor filly in this year’s $500,000 Group 1 SKY Racing Tattersall’s Tiara (1400m) at Eagle Farm.

Last start he was aboard the progressive three-year-old at the same track and distance on Stradbroke Handicap Day (June 7) for Cosmic Endeavour’s win in the Group 2 Dane Ripper Stakes (1400m).

That race has produced three of the past 10 Tattersall’s Tiara winners including the Chris Waller-trained Red Tracer who completed the double 12 months ago and who is back to defend her Tiara title on the weekend.

The Dane Ripper was also Cosmic Endeavour’s third win from her past four starts.

The first of those wins was in the Group 2 Sapphire Stakes (1200m) at Randwick in April when Berry rode her to a two length victory over Avoid Lightning from a wide gate.

Berry was then absent for the filly’s next two runs when third to Aerobatics in the Group 3 The 2014 Darley Crown (1300m) at Hawkesbury with James McDonald riding and her smart $400,000 Inglis 3YO Guineas (1400m) success at Scone with Kerrin McEvoy in the saddle.

Cosmic Endeavour absolutely bolted it in for her Dane Ripper victory when defeating her Group 1 winning stablemate Driefontein by nearly two lengths, an effort Berry and Waterhouse are hoping she can repeat on Saturday.

Waterhouse has also nominated Robert Sangster Stakes champ Driefontein for the Tattersall’s Tiara, her duo two of 25 early entries for the final Group 1 of the 2013-14 Australian racing season.

Also coming off a Dane Ripper run behind the Waterhouse-trained quinella are then the likes of Belle de Coeur (3rd), Peron (4th), Platinum Rocker (5th) and Myamira (6th).

If successful in the Tatt’s Tiara Berry will be celebrating his fourth Australian Group 1 for the season.

He’s previously saluted aboard Diamond Drille in the Queen Of The Turf Stakes, 2014 Melbourne Cup favourite The Offer in their comprehensive Sydney Cup triumph and most recently Caulfield Guineas-bound Almalad in the JJ Atkins during the Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival.

Cosmic Endeavour isn’t Berry’s only Tattersall’s Tiara Day ride either.

Waterhouse has also engaged his services for two-year-old Fastnet Rock filly Bayrock in the $100,000 Listed Breakfast Creek Hotel Stakes (1400m) and improving Stratum mare Queenstown in the $100,000 Listed Centenary Classic Mercedes Benz Mile (1600m).

He will also ride in the $175,000 Group 3 W.J. Healy Stakes (1200m) partnering with Grahame Begg’s General Nediym mare Bennetta who comes off a close third to Sacred Star in the Group 2 QTC Cup (1300m) from last month.

Tattersall’s Tiara 2014 final acceptances close tomorrow with the final field and barriers released mid-morning.

That makes now the time to get ready for the Tattersall’s Tiara racing and betting action by signing up with Ladbrokes.com.au, the only online bookie offering punters their winnings in CASH seconds after payout thanks to their Ladbrokes Card backed by Eftpos.
