Trainer Mick Price has revealed champion sprinter Lankan Rupee will return to work on Monday ahead of a busy 2014 Spring Racing Carnival.

Comfortably winning all four starts and registering as the standout performer of the 2014 Sydney Autumn Carnival, Price said the Redoute’s Choice gelding has taken to a stint in the spelling paddock well, and is in a top state both physically and mentally ahead of what is likely to be a five race spring preparation, beginning with the Group 2 McEwen Stakes (1000m) at Moonee Valley on September 6^th.

“I saw him the other day and he looks fantastic and looks well,” Price told AAP.

“He’s sound and he’s happy and good as gold.

“It will be the first week of June coming back into work and he’ll be ready to race at the end of August.”

Strolling home to win the Group 1 T.J. Smith Stakes (1400m) on day 1 of The Championships on a bogged Randwick track most recently, Price said he hopes for far-better racing conditions for his stable’s star throughout the spring carnival.

“A wet spring is not what I want,” Price added.

Claiming an impressive total of nine wins and three minor places from just 16 competitive race starts to date, Lankan Rupee was unable to string together a completely consistent racing career until gelded at the conclusion of his 2013 autumn preparation, since which he has claimed seven victories and one place from eight starts.

Returning to racing in career best form this time in, the four-year-old won the Group 2 Rubiton Stakes (1100m) with ease first-up on February 8^th before claiming three impressive victories back-to-back at the highest level of Australian racing in winning the Group 1 Oakleigh Plate (1100m) and Group 1 Newmarket Handicap (1200m) prior to the T.J. Smith.
