Moody Looking Ahead To Caulfield Cup With Kesampour

Imported stayer Kesampour will make his Australian racing debut in the Listed Slickpix Stakes (1700m) at Caulfield on Saturday but trainer Peter Moody is already looking ahead to the Group 1 Caulfield Cup (2400m) with the talented four-year-old.

Moody has been impressed with how the son of King’s Best has performed in trackwork since arriving in Australia and told Racing Ahead that he is looking forward to learning more about the entire this weekend.

“Kesampour is a very interesting horse,” Moody said on RSN.

“He won his first four, got beaten a length in the French Derby and was unplaced in the Arc at his last run.

“He has prepped up well.

“We will be looking for a competitive effort from him tomorrow but we will be looking to learn more than anything.”

Moody has a number of talented imported stayers under his care, including Group 1 winner Manighar, but he considers Kesampour his leading chance for the Group 1 Caulfield Cup that will be run at the home of the Melbourne Racing Club on October 19.

“What we have learned so far is he’s a really nice horse who will be at his best when he gets to a mile and a half,” Moody said.

“He is our leading Caulfield Cup charge.”

Moody is also eyeing the Caulfield Cup with My Quest For Peace who will return to the races for the first time since the 2013 Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival in the Group 1 Memsie Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield this Saturday.

My Quest For Peace finished fifth in the 2012 edition of the Caulfield Cup and Moody is hoping that the son of Galileo will perform well enough during the 2013 Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival to earn another run in the race.

“I’m very happy with him and we’re hoping to get him to the Caulfield Cup – that’s his Spring aim,” Moody told TVN.

Kesampour ($8.50) is considered a good chance to begin his Australian racing career with a victory while My Quest For Peace ($101) is an extreme outsider in the Memsie Stakes field.
