Australian-owned French import Tac De Boistron is being set for the Sydney Cup 2013 following their disappointing effort in this year’s Melbourne Cup.

Purchased by Australian Thoroughbred Bloodstock, the Take Risks six-year-old made their Australian debut for new trainer Mick Kent with a disappointing sixth to fellow European Gatewood in the Geelong Cup last month.

They went straight from the Geelong Cup into the world’s richest handicap as a $101 roughie but could only manage to beat home one other runner in the 24-horse race won by Green Moon.

Sent for a spell after that Tac De Boistron is currently in the paddock preparing for an autumn campaign where they will target another slightly less prestigious two mile event, the $500,000 Group 1 Sydney Cup (3200m) at Randwick Racecourse on April 27, 2013.

Connections are also looking further ahead with plans to try the stayer in the $6.2 million Group 1 Emirates Melbourne Cup (3200m) again next spring,  a top three finish in the Sydney Cup to qualify them for the ‘race that stops a nation’ on the first Tuesday of November.

“Tac De Boistron is spelling for five weeks at Manningtree Park,” ATB’s Darren Dance said.

“We’ll look at preparing him for the Sydney Cup. He’s probably going to need to win the Sydney Cup just to get a run in next year’s Melbourne Cup.”
