Jockey Clare Lindop, who was hoping for a fourth Melbourne Cup mount next Tuesday, will miss the Flemington feature due to a suspension.

Lindop, the first female hoop to take out the Victoria Derby with $101 outsider Rebel Raider last year, was suspended yesterday for careless riding at Bendigo until midnight November 3, Cup night.

She rode Last Drop to fifth in a 1600m handicap at the Bendigo Cup meeting, but was found guilty of interference after the run.

Bart Cummings, aiming at an incredible 13th Melbourne Cup, had Lindop booked to ride Dandaad should the galloper have made the final 24 horse field.

She was also set to ride Dandaad this Saturday in the Group 3 Lexus Stakes, where a win would elevate the six-year-old gelding into Cup contention. Dandaad is currently 35th in order of entry for the Melbourne Cup and needs a victory Saturday to gain a ballot exemption.

Cummings quickly secured in-form rider Corey Brown to mount Dandaad on Saturday as Lindop’s replacement in the crucial qualifying race.

In 2003 Lindop became the first Australian female jockey to ride in a Melbourne Cup when she rode Debben to 19th place. Her second Cup was aboard fifth-placed Dolphin Jo in 2007 and last year she placed fifth again with Saab Stakes winner Moatize.
