Star hoop Glen Boss has received a ten meeting suspension for race interference and incautious riding during his winning Cox Plate run on Saturday.

Boss, who rode Bart Cummings-trained colt So You Think to victory in the $3million Moonee Valley feature, will now miss the coveted Group 1 Victoria Derby this Saturday. The ban includes one other metropolitan and eight country meetings and ceases midnight November 2, clearing him for the most important mount of them all in the Melbourne Cup the next day.

The charge was allowing So You Think to shift in passing the winning post first time round, tightening before the turn of the straight at the start of the race, without being completely clear of competitor Heart Of Dreams. Boss pleaded guilty, his actions meaning Heart Of Dreams had to be checked and Zipping, who went on to place third, was tightened for room.

The excitement surrounding the victory was also dampened with Boss copping a $1000 fine from stewards for rejoicing in his victory on So You Think with a celebratory gesture before the winning post.

The suspension means Boss will miss the mount on the star colt in the Group 1 Mackinnon Stakes this Saturday, after Cummings decided to run So You Think in the race instead of the Emirates Stakes the following week.

Craig Williams has picked up the ride, Cummings calling him with the offer while the jockey was in Hong Kong. Williams originally thought he might have to turn down the mount, as he thought Cox Plate runner-up Manhattan Rain was also running in the Mackinnon. But Manhattan Rain’s trainer Gai Waterhouse has instead sent her colt to the paddock, freeing Williams up for Cummings’ offer.
