Ramornie Here De Angels Comes

Here De Angels

Here De Angels is a confirmed contenter for the Ramornie Handicap

Known barrier rogue Here De Angels is ready to run their first race for Goulbourn-based trainer Wendy Roche in the Ramornie Handicap after their winning barrier trial in front of stewards at Canberra last week.

Group 1 place-getting Dehere gelding Here De Angels has been confirmed as a contender for the $175,000 WHK Ramornie Handicap (1200m) at Grafton on July 13 after successfully trialling for stewards last Friday.

At their former home in Victoria seven-year-old Here De Angels was previously prepared by Mark Kavanagh, but was recently purchased by southern highlands veterinarian John Crowley for $82,000 at the Inglis Australian Racehorse Sale for tried horses in Melbourne.

Having won 11 of their 31 starts for over $735,000 in prize money under Kavanagh, Here De Angles is now prepared by Wendy Roche in New South Wales having come to her under a barrier ban.

They will now make their debut for their new connections in the Ramornie after stewards approved the barrier ban to be lifted following Here De Angel’s eye-catching Canberra trial win by five and a half lengths over 900 metres.

Here De Angels, notorious for their bad barrier manners, last raced in September last year when after rearing badly at the start they failed to make up the ground and finished dead last in a Listed sprint at Caulfield.

It was the second race flop on the trot for the galloper who also failed to beat home any other runners in an earlier Listed Caulfield race in August of last year.

Prior to the spring, Here De Angels showed promise when posting three wins and three seconds from six starts during the spring – summer season of 2009-10.

Taking out the Mitty’s Cup (1200m) at Caulfield in October 2009, Here De Angels went on to run second to Ahdashim in the MSS Security Sprint (1200m) at Flemington on Melbourne Cup Day of that year.

Next start they enjoyed a Boxing Day victory in the Listed Christmas Stakes (1200m) before returning at Moonee Valley in January of 2010 to finish a gallant second to sprint sensation Black Caviar in the Group 2 Australia Stakes (1200m).

Taking out the Group 3 Rubiton Stakes (100m) just a fortnight later at Caulfield, Here De Angles then ran at the highest level when beaten in the final stride by Starspangledbanner in the 2010 Oakleigh Plate.

Now Roche is hoping that Here De Angles can transfer their recent success in the barrier trails onto the track for their comeback in the Ramornie.

Prior to their successful Canberra hit-out, Here De Angles also won a barrier trial at Goulburn over 800 metres by an easy four lengths on June 10.

Jockey Jeff Penza has been booked for Ramornie ride on Here De Angels after partnering successfully with the horse in both of their winning trials this month.
