Redkirk Warrior is currently marked at $9.50 at Ladbrokes.com.au after $13 was bet when the final field was released on Wednesday.

The Everest winner Redzel heads the market order at $4.20 ahead of Redkirk Warrior’s stablemate Vega Magic at $4.80.

Redkirk Warrior hasn’t raced since finishing tenth to Redzel in the $10m The Everest (1200m) at Randwick on October 14 and will jump from barrier three in the fourteen horse Darley Classic field with Regan Bayliss in the saddle again.

Bayliss has ridden the David and Ben Hayes and Tom Dabernig trained sprinter on four occasions for two wins, both of them over the 1200m down the famous Flemington straight.

Bayliss and Redkirk Warrior teamed up for a win in the Group 1 $1.25m Lexus Newmarket Handicap (1200m) during the 2017 Melbourne Autumn Carnival and then kicked off their Spring Carnival campaign together with a first up win in the Group 2 $200,000 Bobbie Lewis Quality (1200m) at Flemington September 16.

Darley Classic favourite Redzel is the winner of his last five starts which also includes a Group 1 victory in the $700,000 James Boag’s Premium Doomben 10000 (1200m) at Doomben during the 2017 Brisbane Winter Carnival.

Redzel is also a winner down the Flemington straight during the 2016 Melbourne Cup Carnival when he took out the Listed $150,000 Mumm Stakes (1000m) on Crown Oaks Day.

Redzel has drawn barrier ten in the fourteen horse field with winning Everest rider Kerrin McEvoy in the saddle again and co-trainer Peter Snowden said that the Snitzel five year old has pulled up in great shape following his win in the inaugural running of The Everest.

“I couldn’t be happier with how the horse has trained on since The Everest,” said Snowden.

“He’s in a fantastic place and is very happy in himself. We’ve given him a month between races again when we know he’s at his very best and he’ll be tough to beat again on Saturday.

“We’ll see how the track plays but we’re happy with the draw as the horse has fantastic gate speed and has already shown that he’s adaptable in leading or tracking the leaders.

“His work on Tuesday was excellent and it’s all systems go for Saturday.”
