Today’s 2021 Caloundra Cup Day meeting at the Sunshine Coast in Queensland has been abandoned due to the state of the track.
Heavy rainfall across the south-east has forced the final day of the Queensland Winter Racing Carnival to be called off with the Caloundra Cup Day races postponed.
The nine-race Sunshine Coast program was headlined by the Listed $175,000 Caloundra Cup (2400m) featuring Stockman, the Listed $175,000 Glasshouse Handicap (1400m) and the Group 3 $175,000 Winx Guineas (1600m) for the three-year-olds.
The decision was made just after 7am (AEST) to call off the metropolitan meeting on Saturday morning with the deteriorating track given a Heavy (10) rating at the time of inspection.
With up to 40mm of rain forecast across the day, the course surface was declared unfit for racing by Sunshine Coast racing officials and subsequently abandoned.
“RQ confirms that following a track inspection, the race meeting @SCTurfClub today has been postponed. The potential for the rescheduling of the race meeting will now be considered by RQ in conjunction with club management,” Racing Queensland confirmed on Twitter.
The big wet across the state also saw Saturday’s Gold Coast meeting abandoned with a phantom meeting set to take place instead, and the final six races on the 10-race Ipswich card on Friday also called off.
Today’s racing action is now headlined by Finals Day at Flemington in Melbourne, betting for which is available here through Ladbrokes.com.au.
