The Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival action continues today, Saturday February 29, with the dual Group 1 Chipping Norton Stakes Day 2020 meeting – a full Randwick track report and latest scratchings for which are detailed below.
The weather in Sydney is for a partly cloudy but fine day and with no chance of rainfall across the afternoon the current Good (4) Randwick track rating looks set to remain making for a perfect day’s racing.
Randwick racing kicks off at 12:55pm (AEDT) and the nine-race card continues through until 5:50pm (AEDT).
The early features on the program are for the Golden Slipper-bound two-year-olds with a ballot free ride into the $3.5 million feature on offer in both the Group 2 2020 Sweet Embrace Stakes (Race 2) and the Group 2 2020 Skyline Stakes (Race 3).
The Sweet Embrace Stakes field is down to seven fillies following three notable scratchings: #4 Supreme Idea (5), #6 Dubai Star (9) and #9 Close To Me (8) and updated odds are firming on the Team Snowden-trained favourite Stellar Pauline ($2.20 @ Ladbrokes.com.au).
In the equivalent race for colts and geldings, the full nine starter Skyline Stakes field remains with betting led by the undefeated Canonbury Stakes winner Prague ($2.60 @ Ladbrokes.com.au).
The meeting is of course headlined by two elite level races starting with the Group 1 2020 Surround Stakes (Race 6) for three-year-old fillies.
Eleven are left in the Surround Stakes field after a trio of withdrawals from the half-a-million-dollar clash most notably the unbeaten #7 How Womantic (13).
It still looks a brilliant edition of still-new Group 1 race with first-up Light Fingers Stakes winner Flit ($2.90 @ Ladbrokes.com.au) firming into favouritism over Funstar ($3.40).
The marquee race on the card is then the Group 1 2020 Chipping Norton Stakes (Race 7) and in the mile classic 13 will do battle after Chris Waller withdrew #14 Danzdanzdance (3) from the weight-for-age showdown.
The latest Chipping Norton Stakes odds online have the Kiwi raider Te Akau Shark ($2.90 @ Ladbrokes.com.au) as the one to beat, but there looks plenty of class and value in the race including the $6.50 price on multiple Group 1 champ Fierce Impact.
See below for the full Randwick race scratchings and jump times before heading online to Ladbrokes.com.au for the top Saturday racing odds.
