It is shaping-up as an intriguing edition of the Gold Coast Magic Millions Cup 2018 on Saturday, our insider tips and the latest summer racing odds on the million dollar feature found below.
A capacity field of 16 remain with emergencies Strike Force and Steamin’ both getting a run in the Restricted Listed $1 million Magic Millions Cup (1400m) as part of the $10 million Magic Millions Race Day.
A host of gallopers come into the handicap clash off outstanding lead-up form and with the best in Magic Millions Cup betting having mixed luck with the barriers, the markets have opened up.
Sitting top of the Magic Millions Cup odds at Ladbrokes.com.au paying $3.50 to salute from the outside alley (16 of 16) is the flying Matthew Dunn-trained Care To Think.
A fifth straight wins calls for the So You Think four-year-old who has an outstanding record over the distance (4:3-1-0) and who will relish a dry Gold Coast track along with the light weight (54kg).
Drawn the complete opposite end of the field barrier one is the $6 second elect and 1400m specialist Arbeitsam for Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott, while the Liam Birchley-trained 2018 Doncaster Mile-bound Crack Me Up ($6.50) is drawn to get things his way from barrier four on the back of a Group 2 Villiers Stakes (1600m) win in Sydney.
The race’s 2016 winner Lucky Hussler ($9) is the 61kg top weight still under double-figures for the win, while the big Magic Millions Cup market mover is his stablemate Ozi Choice ($14 into $11) also from the Victorian stables of Darren Weir.
With so many livewire chances, see below for the Magic Millions Cup 2018 tips on the horses to back and sack in the Gold Coast Race 6 on Saturday.
1st
#8 Ozi Choice ($11)
Early market mover, but still big value offered for this in-form Weir visitor. The Denman five-year-old has won his last three over the distance during December, a fortnight between each run. He gets that same two week spacing here and can strike again rising in class. Needs to meet some of the best in the business at 54kg after carrying 52.5kg for his latest two Melbourne wins, but he looks to be going well enough to cross late from the gate and make a mark.
2nd
#9 Oak Door ($17)
Even longer in the markets, Robert Smerdon’s Commands four-year-old Oak Door can surprise at a price. He is three-from-four over the metres and will appreciate returning to them after a lead-up second over 1200m at Caulfield in the Listed Christmas Stake son Boxing Day. First go at the Gold Coast, but has place claims with Luke Currie in the saddle from a nice mid-field draw.
3rd
#6 Arbeitsam ($6)
Rails isn’t always the best place to be at the Gold Coast track, but plenty of boxes ticked by this consistent son of Snitzel. He has a 50% winning strike rate over the distance and comes right back from 59kg to 54kg here. After a trio of winter wins including the Listed Rowley Mile (1600m), first-up this gelding ran a close fourth in the Wyong Magic Millions 3YO & 4YO Stakes (1200m). Second-up over 1400m with less weight, he’s a big danger.
