2017 Australasian Oaks Odds: Egg Tart Market Mover

Money is starting to come in for Chris Waller’s up-in-class filly Egg Tart in the Australasian Oaks 2017 odds for the Group 1 in South Australia this weekend.

The major support act on the Robert Sangster Stakes Day card at Morphettville, betting on this season’s $500,000 Group 1 Schweppes Australasian Oaks (2010m) have the Darren Weir-trained Kenedna on top.

Hot on her heels in the latest markets for Morphettville Race 6 on Saturday afternoon meanwhile is another in-form filly, Egg Tart backed in from $4.40 into $4.20 in the Australasian Oaks odds online at Ladbrokes.com.au.

Drawn a treat in barrier five, the daughter of Sebring has Kerrin McEvoy aboard as she chases her fifth win on the trot.

As yet untested in stakes class, the Group 1 test is a notable rise in grade for Egg Tart who also races over further than a mile for the first time.

Her latest effort however suggested she’ll see out the metres after she posted a nearly three length win at Flemington on Anzac Day over 1600m on a Heavy (8) track.

Just two favourites in Schweppes Oaks betting have saluted for the punters in the past six years, most recently the Weir-trained May’s Dream in 2014.

This weekend Weir is back with the punters’ pick again saddling-up Not A Single Doubt filly Kenedna from barrier three with John Allen retaining the ride.

The favourite is at a current $3.30 quote to get the job done from the nice gate and continue her excellent Adelaide Autumn Racing Carnival form after winning her two lead-up runs at the Morphettville track.

Her most recent run was on April 22 when beating home With A Bit Of Dash by over a length and a half from barrier 14 of 17 in the Group 3 Auraria Stakes (1800m).

Despite the capacity size of this year’s Australasian Oaks field, just one other runner is currently at single-figures for the win with Toffee Nose ($7.50) drawn out wide in gate 13.

Prepared by Danny O’Brien, the Toorak Toff filly comes off a string of top three runs including her second to Oregon’s Day at Moonee Valley in late March in the Group 3 Alexandra Stakes (1600m).

She was last seen enjoying a win over the 2000m at Caulfield and the bookies are taking no chances with her as she is proven over the Australasian Oaks distance.

There is plenty of class to be found further down the markets with some genuine chances jumping at double-figures including Sword Of Light ($12) coming off back-to-back 2000m Caulfield wins in April and NZ Oaks third placegetter Savvy Dreams ($12) in just her second run down under.

Also after an upset with big claims at a big price are the likes of the spring’s Crown Oaks runner-up Harlow Gold ($14) in the second widest draw and the fellow Lindsay Park-trained Sebring Dream ($17) coming off an Auraria Stakes third to Saturday’s Oaks favourite.
