Peter Moody-trained Dissident has won a final straight sprint-off with Atlante to claim the 2014 Group 2 Hobartville Stakes (1400m) at Rosehill Gardens Racecourse this afternoon.

Having jumped fairly, Dissident pulled a near three-length gap with Romantic Touch over the back straight and rounding the bend, and looked like being swallowed up by the field before finding an extra gear and entering into an exciting final-straight sprint with three-year-old Atlante, digging deep to win by a nose.
Representative of trainer Peter Moody’s stable, Claire Cunningham was thrilled with the way Dissident took to the race and hinted that an appearance in the Group 1 Doncaster Mile (1600m) this preparation was the goal.
“The horse really deserves it” Cunningham said after the race.
“We were clutching at straws pushing him all the way home but I think it might have been a bit of a confidence boost; it was great for him to get up.
“The idea was to go forward obviously with the way the track is playing, but I said to Jimmy before the race he’s a versatile horse but you do have to get him out there and make him do it because he’ll switch off if you let him.
“He jumped really well and Jimmy kept him there and I think he made sure he was going to work home.”
Jockey Jim Cassidy delivered a sensational ride on Dissident, but revealed it was far from smooth sailing on the Sebring colt.
“He’s a bit laid back; I had to make him do everything today” Cassidy told the media immediately after the Hobartville Stakes.
“I was tickled pink with today’s result, but I think once he gets to a mile and two thousand I think he’s going to enjoy being two lengths further back where he can travel into it.
“Claire’s done a wonderful job for Pete here in Sydney and it’s nice to be part of the team to get a winner here for them.”
A busy campaign is now well and truly on the cards for Dissident, with likely appearances in the Group 1 Randwick Guineas (1600m) and Group 1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m) likely to bookend the Doncaster Mile.
