The Victorian Racing Club (VRC) today revealed their revised racing programme for the 2010/11 season with a number of exciting amendments to the Flemington Festival of Racing schedule, including those for the 2010 Melbourne Cup Carnival.

Flemington, home to Australia’s famed $6 million Group 1 Melbourne Cup (3200m), is the VRC’s most esteemed racecourse and a number of changes to their annual programme have been put in place to coincide with Group racing at other metropolitan clubs around Victoria.

“The Flemington racing programs, as part of the overall re-formatted Melbourne Festival of Racing, are now better positioned,” VRC CEO Dale Monteith said.

Major changes include the movement of Coolmore Lighting Stakes Day to a date in mid-February and a Festival Family Day in early March that will include the Group 1 Australian Guineas (1600m).

The Festival Family Day will be followed directly by Flemington’s Super Saturday of Racing featuring an elite line-up of Group status races including the Group 1 Australian Cup (2000m) and the Group 1 Newmarket Handicap (1200m).
