Bart Cumming’s Faint Perfume has won the 2009 Group Two Wakeful Stakes in an epic three length victory over Silent Surround.
Sitting back five lengths in the first 1000m of the race with favourite Run For Naara, Faint Perfume came up on the outside in the last 300 meters towards the home turn.
Kicking up before the race, Faint Perfume showed a bit of nastiness and competitiveness entering the barrier.
Faint Perfume’s jockey Micheal Rodd says the filly had a good tempo and configuration coming round the turn and Cummings commented that she performs like a stayer and has a good staying pedigree.
Going on to the Crown Oaks this coming Thursday, Bart Cummings is expecting a great run from the three year old filly.
Mont Fleuri took the lead in the 2000m race early on followed by Jolie Brise, Fomalite and Melito.
Reaching a speed of 63kph, the pack tried to break up at the 1000m mark and Mont Fleuri opened up three lengths to Jolie Brise.
Coming up from the inside was Silent Surround at the 400m mark however could not keep up with Faint Perfume as she stormed home.
Race favourite Run For Naara finished fourth behind third placegetter Melito and runner-up Silent Surround.
