Jockey Craig Williams continued his ace association with the speedy daughter of Exceed And Excel who franked the form out of her two Listed lead-up wins over 1100m, rising in grade and distance for the Group 1 $1.5 million Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m).

There was plenty of money on her to ruin it for the colts and geldings out to increase their future value at stud, and September Run didn’t disappoint saluting for favourite-backers in a big way and handing Waller with his 12th Melbourne Cup Carnival Group 1.

After jumping away well, Williams was able to restrain the filly getting her to settle back before edging into the race on the outside.

In a stellar line-up of three-year-old sprinters, September Run won with authority really delivering the goods with her sensational finishing burst over the final furlong.

Anders led the Coolmore Stud Stakes field around going hard out early before he was collared by Wild Ruler approaching the finish.

September Run however moved up to take the lead at the clocktower and won running away from another filly who came into the Group 1 off back-to-back victories in easier grade, the Leon & Troy Corstens-trained Swats That running an eye-catching second in an all-filly quinella.

The Peter & Paul Snowden-trained Snitzel colt Wild Ruler meanwhile was the best home of the boys, the last start Group 2 Roman Consul winner out of Sydney finishing third.

“She’s just gone to the next level with every start,” Waller’s stable rep Jo Taylor told Racing.com after the win.

“I thought Craig did a phenomenal job just keeping her tucked away.

“We knew she would be lightning quick over the concluding stages.

“She jumped really well…but Craig was sur to keep the top screwed up nice and tight until the right moment and when he produced her, she certainly showed her class.

“She’s almost gotten stronger a she’s raced. She’s still a young filly and I think there’s more furnishing to happen with her so there’s no reason she can’t keep going to bigger heights after this preparation.”

September Run became the second filly in three years to win the Coolmore Stud Stakes following the 2018 victory by Sunlight.
