Veteran Jungle Edge Wins DC McKay Stakes 2020: The Goodwood Next?
Rising 10-year-old Jungle Edge continued to prove his evergreen status with a Group 3 DC McKay Stakes win at Morphettville on Saturday ahead of a potential return to the track for The Goodwood 2020.

The Mick Bell-trained Dubawi gelding posted his fourth Group 3 level success in the last on Robert Sangster Stakes Day improving on his lead-up last (14th) in the Group 1 The Galaxy (1100m) at Rosehill on March 21.
A three-time Group 1 placegetter, Jungle Edge is a known mudlark and his Cranbourne-based trainer Bell was weighing up whether to race the nine-year-old in Adelaide or Melbourne’s Sandown Racecourse this weekend.
He opted to send the horse to South Australia in search of wet tracks, but the punters shied away from the galloper on race day as the Morphettville course firmed over the afternoon.
Despite the alternative Sandown track being more rain-affected on the day, the Adelaide race remained the right choice for Jungle Edge who led all-the-way to salute by one and three-quarter lengths after drifting out from $4.80 to $7 through Ladbrokes.com.au.
Jungle Edge was ridden by apprentice hoop Ms Georgina Cartwright who continued a nice association taking her record aboard the old warhorse up to two wins and two minor placings.
Jungle Edge flew out the gates to land in the lead, heading the field around from go to whoa in an impressive front-running ride from Cartwright.
Having found the rail, the veteran never looked like being run down over the short distance on a Soft track, the David Jolly-trained Behemoth ($5.50) trying to chase him down before settling for second.
In third in a career highlight at $41 odds was the Barry Brook-trained Kabini, the Written Tycoon mare further franking the form out of the Listed Hills Railway Stakes (1000m) from April 11 won by subsequent $41 Robert Sangster Stakes champion Bella Vella.
Bell will now be praying for more rain ahead of the Group 1 $400,000 The Goodwood (1200m) on May 16 with Jungle Edge added to the all-in markets at Ladbrokes.com.au at $15.
All Too Hard four-year-old Behemoth, a luckless second as a three-year-old behind Despatch in last year’s The Goodwood results, has firmed into $11 to go one better in 2020.
