The first of the ‘Big 3’ spring majors takes place in Melbourne today with Caulfield Cup Day 2019 fighting Sydney’s The Everest meeting for the punters’ attention, and below we have a look at the latest Caulfield scratchings and track report.
The weather in Melbourne today is overcast with scattered showers predicted for later in the afternoon meaning the current Good (4) Caulfield track rating could be downgraded for the final races on the program.
Racing at Caulfield kicks off at 12:15pm (AEDT) and the bumper 10-race program continues through until the mares do battle in the 2019 Group 2 Tristarc Stakes at 5:50pm where #4 Celebrity Dream (13) from the Waller stables is the only scratching.
The meeting is obviously headlined by the Group 1 $5 million Caulfield Cup (2400m) that is scheduled as the penultimate event on the card (Race 9) at 5:15pm.
The Caulfield Cup 2019 field lost the NZ Derby winner Crown Prosecutor (2) to a leg issue on Friday paving the way for the Michael Moroney-trained emergency Sound to gain a start.
The three other Caulfield Cup emergencies have also now been scratched with barriers now confirmed for the 18-starter field.
Caulfield Cup betting at Ladbrokes.com.au is dominated by Waller’s gun import Finche ($6.50) who will jump from barrier 15 with Michael Walker in the saddle.
See below for the full Caulfield race scratchings and jump times before heading to Ladbrokes.com.au for the best weekend racing odds and offers.
