It is a fine day in the greater Sydney metropolitan region today, however the Rosehill Gardens track has been rated a Soft 5 following a total of 25.5mm of rain over the course throughout the last seven days.

The action of 2016 Golden Slipper Day will get underway with the running of the Group 3 Epona Stakes (1900m) at 12:40pm local time and will conclude with the rescheduled Group 3 Newcastle Newmarket Handicap (1350m) at 6:25pm local time.

Rosehill Gardens Track Report 19/03/2016

  • Rail: +2m Entire Circuit
  • Weather: Fine
  • Track Type: Turf
  • Irrigation: Nil last 24 hours, 5mm last seven days
  • Rainfall: 4.5mm last 24 hours, 25.5mm last seven days

Every race will be contested at black type level and the Group 3 Newcastle Newmarket Handicap has been added to the card after inclement weather forced Wednesday’s meet at Beaumont to be abandoned.

Gust Of Wind headlines a strong field for the Epona Stakes first-up while the Group 3 NE Manion Cup (2400m) will feature some of the Autumn Carnival’s most exciting stayers.

The Listed The Sebring (1200m) is by no means the day’s feature race but is shaping as one of the most highly anticipated events on 2016 Golden Slipper Day after drawing arguably its best ever field, including Counterattack, Takedown and Flippant.

Golden Slipper Day’s Group 1 action begins race 4 at 2:30pm local time with the running of the Ranvet Stakes, while the Group 1 George Ryder will peg the likes of Winx, Turn Me Loose and First Seal against each other at 3:10pm.

The Group 1 Rosehill Guineas (2000m) is one of Golden Slipper Day’s most open races while the headliner will see the country’s best two-year-olds fight it out for a major purse.

A particularly exciting field of sprinters will line up for the Group 1 The Galaxy (1100m) including Terravista, Fell Swoop and Rebel Dane, while there’s plenty of value to be taken advantage of in betting markets for the Group 3 Birthday Card Stakes (1200m) for fillies and mares.
