Closing the Cox Plate Day card at Moonee Valley Racecourse this Saturday is the mares-only G1X.Com.Au Stakes 2015 featuring a final field of 13 hopefuls facing off in the handicap clash.
Due to jump at 6:20pm (AEST) as Moonee Valley Race 10, this year’s edition of the $150,000 Group 3 mile showdown formerly known as the Eliza Park International Stakes has two 58kg equal top weights with Atlantis Dream and Girl Guide.
Both mares come off unplaced runs including Darren Weir-trained Group 2 Queen Of The South Stakes (1600m) winner in Adelaide from May Atlantis Dream looking to improve on a 12th in the Group 2 Blazer Stakes (1400m).
Six-year-old Girl Guide, prepared by David Hayes & Tom Dabernig, also ran in the Blazer Stakes at Flemington on October 4 and crossed two and a half lengths away 10th to the winner La Passe.
One of the best over the line in the Blazer Stakes and backing up in Saturday’s showdown over the extra 200m is the Colin & Cindy Alderson-trained runner-up Manageress.
The Magnus four-year-old backed up from a 2000m Flemington win in August to finish a length away in the Blazer Stakes carrying 55kg with Chris Parnham in the saddle.
She gets the chance to return to the winners’ stall this weekend when going up to a mile, a distance she boasts a solid record over (5-1-3-0), with Manageress going up half a kilo to 55.5kg with Parnham retaining the ride.
The only last start winner in the line-up is the Ciaron Maher-trained Shinko King four-year-old Azkadellia, drawn out wide in gate 11 with top hoop James McDonald in the saddle, who saluted over 1400m at Cranbourne on October 11.
Other mares coming off a top three effort include the Brett Scott-trained six-year-old Coronation Shallan who ran third to Vashka a week ago in the Group 3 Moonga Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield and the James Cummings-trained Hussonet four-year-old Zarzali.
Zarzali has twice run third from her two previous mile runs, the Group 1 performer coming off a third to Casino Dancer in Sydney’s Group 3 Angst Stakes (1600m) ahead of her Melbourne race debut on Cox Plate Day.
An interesting addition in the race is the Peter Moody-trained South African import Do You Remember having her down under debut from the outside draw (13 of 13), the Group 1 winning six-year-old not having raced since February.
Also in the mix for the last at Moonee Valley on Saturday are the likes of the Chris Waller-trained High Chaparral four-year-old Ballet Suite out to atone for her 11th in the Angst Stakes back in Sydney and Blazer Stakes third place Lucky Lago who was last seen crossing fourth in the Group 3 Ladies Day Vase (1600m) at Caulfield on October 14.
