Current co-favourite to win next weekend’s Sydney Cup, The Offer will on Saturday look to secure their spot at the top of the markets for the two mile classic when they run in the 2014 Chairman’s Handicap.

A final field of 11 stayers were accepted for this year’s $300,000 Group 2 Schweppes Chairman’s Handicap (2600m), due to jump as Royal Randwick Race 4 at 2:00pm (AEST).

The genuine staying test will also see some of the top fancies for the $1 million Group 1 Sydney Cup (3200m) back at the track on the 19th face off, including Montjeu five-year-old The Offer.

The Offer currently sits top of the Sydney Cup odds at an equal $4.60 price along with Ranvet Stakes – The BMW double winning mare Silent Achiever.

Winner of the Ballarat Cup during the spring in the mud, this known we track performer comes off a nice three and a half winning effort in the Group 3 NE Manion Cup (2400m) at Rosehill from a fortnight ago.

There they carried 54.5kg to victory with Tommy Berry in the saddle, Berry retaining the ride on Saturday with the duo going up to 57.5kg.

They have also drawn the same inside barrier (1) they saluted from in the NE Manion so should get their run of the race again on the weekend.

Also coming via the NE Manion Cup are the Chris Waller-trained runner-up Opinion and fourth placed Desert Jeuney.

Drawn in gate two for the weekend one outside of their last start conqueror, Waller’s Oasis Dream five-year-old Opinion is up in class here having their first Group 2 start.

They have class however having beaten home Carlton House by three lengths in the Parramatta Cup three back, the form there franked with the runner-up going on to run second to Silent Achiever in the Ranvet.

Another Sydney Cup 2014 hope, Nigel Blackiston’s four-year-old Desert Jeuney is in good form this season coming via a Sky High Stakes third and then the NE Manion Cup fourth.

They actually drop from 54.5kg last start to just 53kg on Saturday though making them a genuine shot at the title from barrier 10 with Chad Schofield aboard.

The other major player is then Jamie Edwards & Bruce Elkinton’s Sertorius in gate nine, the Galileo six-year-old catching the eye at Rosehill last week.

There they ran a solid fourth in The BMW (2400m) behind Sydney Cup favourite Silent Achiever doing a top job on the soft track when they go better on firmer ground.

That was under weight-for-age and they carried the 59kg, the same weight they’re allocated for Saturday however under handicap conditions meaning they give plenty of kilos away to some classy rivals.

Other notable Chairman’s Handicap hopes then include Waller’s evergreen veteran Permit racing for the first time since breaking down in the Parramatta Cup, dual Tasmanian Group 3 winner Epingle for Michael Kent and the defending champ Tremec in gate three for John Thompson.
