The action of the 2010 Cox Plate Day continues with the first Group status event running as Race 3, the $150,000 Group 3 1300 Australia Red Anchor Stakes (1200m), due to jump at 2:05pm (AEDST).
The 2010 1300 Australia Stakes Final Field features nine classy three-year-olds with the open betting market currently lead by Lone Rock paying $4.80 through Luxbet.
Drawn mid-field in barrier six, the bookies are punters are willing to forgive Robert Smerdon’s promising Fastnet Rock filly after her dead last finish in the Thoroughbred Club Stakes at Caulfield earlier in the month, before which she won the Champagne Stakes.
With a heart irregularity to blame for her last-start failure, we are also tipping Lone Rock to return to form today with a win on her preferred Moonee Valley track.
With five of the other 1300 Australia Stakes runners at single-figure odds today, we have selected the three best Place chances to box into a Trifecta with the favourite.
The Danny O’Brien-trained Blink is a consistent filly coming off a last start win at this track and distance where she lead all the way from barrier eight. Drawn in nine today, if she can get to the front early will be right up there at the finish.
Dutchy’s Lass also has a win over 1200m here at Moonee Valley from two starts back. She faded to finish seventh last start, however can be forgiven having been found to have a minor infection. Looking back to her previous win, if she repeats that, is a top chance.
David Haye’s lightly-raced Recoute’s Choice colt Multahem has come up trumps again with barrier one, the gate he has started in for both of his other career starts. After winning on debut last month, is coming off a third over 1400m at Flemington and dropping back in distance today looks good.
