1300 Australia Stakes Field, Barrier Draw & Betting Preview

This Saturday as part of the elite line-up of races scheduled to take place at Moonee Valley for the 2010 Cox Plate Day, nine emerging three-year-olds will contest the $150,000 Group 3 1300 Australia Stakes (1200m).

Formerly known as the Red Anchor Stakes, early favourites in the 2010 1300 Australia Stakes field include Robert Smerdon’s filly Lone Rock, David Hayes’ lightly-raced colt Multahem and the Darren Weir-trained Shiny And New.

Drawn in barrier six for Saturday and due to be ridden by Glen Boss, Fastnet Rock filly Lone Rock was super impressive here last month winning the Group 3 Champagne Stakes.

Punters may be wary to back her after she finished dead-last in the Thoroughbred Club Stakes last start, but back at Moonee Valley and dropping in weight Lone Rock is tipped to improve.

Coming up trumps in the barrier draw with gate one is Multahem.

The Redoute’s Choice colt has had just two career starts to date, winning on debut at Sandown and then finishing a gallant third at Flemington over 1400m last start.

Ideally drawn and carrying just 55.5kg, Multahem is likely to start at the top of the betting markets when they open at Luxbet.

An excellent light-weight chance in the 1300 Australia Stakes is Darren Weir’s consistent filly Shiny And New.

The daughter of Foreplay has enjoyed four wins and two placings from her eight career starts and is coming off an eye-catching fourth to Solar Charged in the Thoroughbred Club Stakes.

Other notable runners in the 1300 Australia Stakes on Saturday include Lee Freedman’s Darello Plate winner Pellizotti and stablemate The Ruffian drawn well in barrier two, improving South Australian galloper Happy Trails and Danny O’Brien’s last-start Moonee Valley winner Blink.

On Saturday the 1300 Australia Stakes is scheduled as Race 3 at Moonee Valley due to jump at 2:05pm (AEDST).

The day’s feature race is the 2010 Cox Plate and the best betting offer going around on the $3 million showdown is the $400 Free Bet Bonus at Luxbet so sign up today to get in on the action!
