History could be made today at the $130 000 Listed Ballarat Cup (2200m), as Country cups hero Bourbonstreetblues attempts his fifth straight win.
Daryl Cannon’s Bourbonstreetblues is in excellent form, coming from four successive wins in the Murtoa (2050m), Horsham (1800m), Terang (2015m) and Kyneton (2000m) Cups and is currently a $6 chance to make that five consecutive Cup victories today.
The in-form seven-year-olds impressive feats this spring mean he is already a warm favourite for the Victorian Country Racehorse of the Year award, and a win today at Ballarat will add greatly to Bourbonstreetblues’ growing notoriety. His number of victories this season already exceed those of any other horse, topping even the Group 2 winning sprinter Eagle Falls.
Ridden by Dean Yendall, the only difficulty today might be Bourbonstreetblues’ wide draw as he starts from barrier 17. If he performs well, Cannon will aim the stayer towards some of the country’s more lucrative black type races including the $400 000 Group 3 Hobart Cup (2200m) and the $300 000 Group 3 Launceston Cup (2400m) early next year.
