2009 Emirates Stakes Day Programme

This Saturday the famous Flemington racecourse in Melbourne will host its final race meeting for the Spring Racing Carnival, Emirates Stakes Day.

Marking the end of group racing at the prestigious course for the season, the meeting is set to be one of the most exciting and entertaining, with nine fantastic races of various statuses held throughout the day to keep the crowds cheering and the punters betting.

Victoria’s richest and most prestigious 1600m race, the Group 1 $1.5million Emirates Stakes is due to commence at 2:55pm as Race 6 on the card. The handicap event always attracts a high class field of quality runners and this year is no different with the Bart Cummings-trained So You Think starting the race as the dominant favourite after his sensational Cox Plate victory.

Other notable races held on the day include the Group 1 Patinack Farm Classic (Race 5), the Group 2 Matriach Stakes (Race 7) and the Group 3 Queen Elizabeth Stakes (Race 8).

Known as “Family Day”, the atmosphere of Emirates Stakes Day is always a relaxed, carnival style affair with a plethora of fantastic race day activities and entertainment for spectators of all ages.
