2017 Carrington Stakes Tips and Betting Preview

A small but talented field of seven runners has been confirmed for Saturday’s 2017 Listed Carrington Stakes (1400m) at Royal Randwick; offering punters exceptional value from a betting standpoint and several key opportunities to place a winning wager.

Ecuador returned to racing this time for a smart win and subsequently figures as an outright $3.70 favourite in 2017 Carrington Stakes betting markets with Ladbrokes.com.au, ahead of Oxford Poet ($3.80) and Gold Symphony ($4.80).

Will Ecuador justify favouritism and win the 2017 Carrington Stakes, or will one of his talented rivals post an upset?

1st

Gold Symphony ($4.80)

Gold Symphony defeated a small but talent-rich field in the Schweppes BM92 (1400m) second-up including subsequent Group 3 winner Imposing Lass, and should just win the Carrington Stakes on Saturday. A multiple black type winner as a three-year-old, the Reward For Effort gelding went missing somewhat throughout his 2016 campaign but has returned to sharp form ahead of this race. Allocated the ideal barrier 4 and confirmed to be partnered by in-form hoop Tim Clark, Gold Symphony will carry only 53kgs and is more than worth consideration for a bet at current Carrington Stakes odds.

2nd

Ecuador ($3.60)

The class of Ecuador’s most-recent win suggests that he will be right in the finish of the Carrington Stakes, particularly if he has taken benefit from the run. Jumping from the gates well in the December Handicap (1400m), Ecuador experienced something of a torrid run in transit but produced a big turn of foot to savage the line for a one-length success. Adam Hyeronmus retains the ride on the seven-year-old, who will leave from the rails draw with a race-high 61kgs in tow.

3rd

Shiraz ($11)

Shiraz is yet to produce much through three starts for Wyong trainer Kim Waugh, but appears to be searching for more distance and will relish the 1400m of the Carrington Stakes. Group 1 placed in 2016, the Zariz gelding has finished fifth in the Listed Razor Sharp Handicap (1200m) and ninth in the Listed Canterbury Classic (1200m) at his two most recent starts. Shiraz is drawn to find a good position off pace and shouldn’t find too much issue in performing with only 57kgs in tow.
